I am an Associate Professor of Economics and Political Science at the Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) in Mexico City and Visiting Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST) and Toulouse School of Economics (TSE). Before, I was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Government at Harvard University between July 2013 and June 2021, and a Visiting Researcher at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse (IAST) and Toulouse School of Economics (TSE) between September 2020 and June 2022.
I am an Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) affiliated professor and an Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP) member.
Native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, I received a PhD in Economics from MIT in 2013, a Master in Economics and Finance from CEMFI in 2007 and a BA in Economics from the University of Buenos Aires in 2004.
My research interests include political economy and development economics using both theory and empirics.
Broadly, I have been interested in political accountability and vote behavior in Africa and Latin America. In particular, I have worked on clientelism and vote buying, the importance of information for political accountability, whether education fosters political participation, and whenever possible, the relevance of social networks for these and other development issues. More recently, motivated by the COVID-19 infodemic and rising political polarization, I am working on various projects on misinformation in Bolivia, South Africa, and Zimbabwe, together with Africa Check, Chequea Bolivia, Kubatana, and Internews, and on polarization in Mexico and Turkey.

Soy Profesor Asociado de Economía y Ciencia Política en el Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México (ITAM) en la Ciudad de México. Antes, fui Profesor Asistente y Asociado de Gobierno en la Universidad de Harvard entre julio de 2013 y junio de 2021, e investigador visitante en el Instituto de Estudios Avanzados de Toulouse (IAST) y en la Escuela de Economía de Toulouse (TSE) entre septiembre de 2020 y junio de 2022.
Soy un profesor afiliado al Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL) y miembro de Evidence in Governance and Politics (EGAP).
Originario de Buenos Aires, Argentina, obtuve un doctorado en Economía del MIT en 2013, una Maestría en Economía y Finanzas del CEMFI en 2007 y una Licenciatura en Economía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires en 2004.
Mis intereses de investigación incluyen la economía política y la economía del desarrollo utilizando tanto teoría como datos.
En general, he estado interesado en la rendición de cuentas y el comportamiento de los votantes en África y América Latina. En particular, he trabajado sobre el clientelismo y la compra de votos, la importancia de la información para la rendición de cuentas, sobre el efecto de la educación en la participación política y, siempre que ha sido posible, la relevancia de las redes sociales para estos y otros temas del desarrollo. Más recientemente, motivado por la infodemia COVID-19 y la creciente polarización política, estoy trabajando en varios proyectos sobre desinformación en Bolivia, Sudáfrica y Zimbabwe, junto con Africa Check, Chequea Bolivia, Kubatana, e Internews, y polarización en México y Turquía.
