Subject: Time to Act to Protect Your Neighborhood!
Do you care about keeping your Single-Family neighborhood safe for you and your children? It is time to take action. We need YOU to show up at City Hall. On July 25, the City Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on Forward Dallas. That plan could eliminate the entire concept of Single-Family neighborhoods in Dallas forever.
That plan for the city would allow duplex, quadplex, and up to nine multi-family apartments next door to your home. Despite city staff attempts to justify their plan as the only way to handle growth for Dallas, there are other ways to deal with increasing density.
Start sending emails now to the entire City Planning Commission care of Yolanda.hernandez@dallas.gov Include personal reasons you want to preserve the character of your neighborhood and why preserving single-family neighborhoods is critical to the well-being of the entire city.
As soon as the city posts the agenda, we will send more specifics about the timeframe.
Suggestions for emails. Please select the items most important to you and then personalize your email.
I object to aspects of the Forward Dallas Plan that propose interjecting duplex and other Multi-Family structures in Single-Family Neighborhoods:
1. It dilutes the peace, serenity, and conformity of land uses that exist now.
2. It deters individuals from purchasing homes in the neighborhood since most prospective homeowners are looking for a more suburban neighborhood look and feel.
3. It drives more people to nearby cities who can provide devoted Single-Family neighborhoods.
4. It would overwhelm streets and alleys that have to provide trash collection and other city services.
5. It would impact emergency response teams by driving more cars to park curbside and thus clogging roadways and slowing critical response times.
There are numerous other concerns you may want to add, and PLEASE personalize your message. That is one way to ensure the Commissioners read your email. Be sure to thank the Commissioners for their service to the city and sign your email.
