Many companies, universities, government agencies, and professional organizations created checklists to help you create accessible materials. Many have also created online tools to check the accessibility of material; some of these are built into a product, but many are stand-alone programs or add-ons to a web browser. In general, we try to identify resources that are free and readily available to everyone at UofSC. Acrobat Reader is a free tool and it is great for reading PDFs.
Acrobat Pro DC is not free, but it can be purchased through the university license. Acrobat Pro has features that allow you to edit PDF documents and to export them into other formats. You must have Acrobat Pro to use the Accessibility Checker.
For more information and a comparison between Acrobat Reader (free) and Acrobat Pro DC ($) versions, go to "Amplify your PDF skills with a click" acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/acrobat/pdf-reader.html
To purchase an annual subscription for Acrobat Pro DC through the University of South Carolina, go to the Software section on Self Service Carolina (http://my.sc.edu). Open Software for Work. A Department/Fund code is necessary. Currently the cost for Acrobat only is $50 per year.
