Hawaii Photo Shooters

On Thursday October 8, at 6:00 p.m., Leomi Bergknut and Susan Miyasaka  will talk about "Japan: Land of the Rising Sun!" They took separate trips to Japan in April and May 2026. Leomi was on a spiritual journey while Susan was a tourist on a cruise ship. Join us to learn about their different experiences!

Leomi and three friends visited their Zazen Sensei (Zen teacher) Daitsu Tom Wright living on Osakikamijimacho Island in the Japan Seto Inland Sea. The journey took them to Kyoto to visit the Imperial Palaces, and to Hiroshima to experience the Peace Memorial Park and the Daisho-in Temple with the Eternal Flame. Many other sites and experiences will be shared in the photo presentation.

Susan and her husband were on a cruise around southern Japan and South Korea on Celebrity Cruise's Millenium. They stopped in ports on the three major Japanese Islands (Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) and South Korea. At each stop, they took excursions to see shrines, temples, castles, caves, gardens, and waterfalls.

The meeting will be a hybrid one (in person and online via zoom). The in-person meeting will be at the Komohana Research & Extension Center (875 Komohana St., Hilo), in the conference room A-204: room in front of elevator, second floor. The October 2026 photo CHALLENGE theme is "Windows: Pictures of, near, through or illuminated by Windows!"  

 Rules and Regs for this CHALLENGE: 

1.  You can submit up to 5 images taken in the past year with a theme of "Windows: Pictures of, near, through, or illuminated by Windows!" 

2. They cannot have won previous contests or been exhibited;

3. Images should be jpg files with a maximum of 1600 pixels in the longest dimension;

4. Titles will be file names; and

5. You can bring your images to the meeting on Thursday  October 8 on a thumb drive or you can email it to Susan M.  by Wednesday October 7  at hawaiiphotoshooters@gmail.com.  

What is a Challenge?

The purpose of a Photo Challenge is to share what we do, explain how we do it, and get to view others' works, ideas, and creativity without having to decide "which is best" or "which is most favored."  Each member will have one image of his/her choice uploaded to the club's website.
