Sri Dayanidhithirthara P.D.(Mulabagal)

33rd pontiff of Sripadarajar Mutt,

He was the last son of Sri Hariyappa Charya, a great scholar in Madhwa shstra. Sri Dhayanidhi theertha was also a scholar. He was working in the Mysore Government in his Poorvashram. He was in the habit of just signing the pay Bill. He never stretched his arm to receive the salary. The peon happened to collect his salary and hand over to his wife. He was a “ Viraktha” ( like Sri Raghunatha Theertha of Sri Uttaradhi Mutt) : While in

Grihasthaashram also, he was seen to have liking for Vairagya. . Sri MeDhanidhi Theertha gave ashram and named him Sri Dayanisdhi Theertha,

After taking the samsthaana( Kopeenastradhaari) . He spent most of his time in study, pooja etc. Did not undertake tours etc. He had interaction with Sri Sathya Pramodha Theertha of Sri Uttaradhi Mutt. They had a Vidhut sabha at Mulabagil. Sri Sathya Pramodha Theertha had all the admiration for the vidya peeTa at Mulabagil, while performing “PaTa Pravachana” at

Sripadarajar sannidhana, presided by Sri Dayanidhi theertha.

Pundits who were closely associated only could understand the supreme knowledge in Madhwa shastra.. They could appreciate the scholarly quality of Sri Dayanidhi theertha. For a lay man he looked like a simple saint. Those who were near to him in associating themselves in study also were able to understand his capacity and scholarly attitude. He gave ashram to the Diwan Sri Krishna Murthy achar and named him Sri Sathya Nidhi theertha and entered Brindavanam, after penance at Mulabagil.

Sri Dayanidhi Theertharu

Brief History of Sri Sri Dayanidhi Theertharu

Sri Dayanidhi Theertha returned to Mulbagal after finishing the ceremony of his guru in Erode. Unlike his guru he did not travel anywhere after taking over the Mutt. He spent most of his time in Mulbagal only. Before taking over the Mutt he had studied English and Law in Presidency college of Madras. He was working as a sub-registrar for some time too. He had exemplary religious knowledge also.

His memory power increased with his age. At the age of 82, his used to teach many of his disciples without any flaw. Due to ill health and increasing age he nominated Sri Hebbani Krishnamurthacharya as his successor in 1955 and named him as Sir Satyanidhi Theertha. He meditated for several years and in 1962 he was immortalised in Brindavan on Margashira shudha trayodashi.
