Sri Madhavendra Tirtha, the 7th pontiff of Sri Kashi Math, attained sajeeva samaadhi at Walkeshwar, Mumbai, on Shravana Shuddha Panchami of Manmath Samvatsara, Sh. Sh. 1667 corresponding to Tuesday, 1st August 1775.
Lot of miracles are associated with the samadhi of Sri Madhavendra Tirtha and to this day, it is believed that any devotee doing seva at the vrindavana of Swamiji gets all his wishes fulfilled. It is also said that Sri Madhavendra Tirtha still goes for bath early in the morning to a lake in front of the Math buildings; the sound of the wooden paadukas have been heard by the subsequent pontiffs of the Math during their camps here and no person is supposed to block the pathway used by Sri Madhavendra Tirtha when He goes for the bath.
Walkeshwar Madhavendra Math (as it is now called by Mumbaikars) is part of Mumbai Heritage.
