(Verses 1 to 11 from the antyakulaka with the predicate jayathi in verse 11.
These verses contain the description of RAsakrida).
The spot of the RAsakrida was illumined with the lustre of the earrings of
the beautiful women who formed themselves in a circle. It had the strong
desire for kissing the cheeks (of Sri Krishna) & was the resort of their
lotus like faces. It is supreme.

The braided locks of the gopis loosened (on account of excessive dancing),
Mukunda, the giver of bliss, was being begged by them. The moon in the form
of marks made by their finger nails (on their breasts) are seen. Sri
Krishna's heroic deeds were being eulogized.

The beautiful wealth of the Raasakrida was seen by the beasts of the
BrundAvan whose minds were lost in it & who were horripilated. The sky was
surrounded as if by the crowds of devas who were overjoyed with the praises
of Mukunda's deeds.

The richness of the ground of the spot shone with the brilliance of the
nails on the feet of the gopis with the glow of the moving anklets spreading
on all sides & with the rows of bowers made of valuable precious stones.

With Sri Hari who is an adept in playing on the flute & who is the giver of
honour to the women of BrndAvan, the attractive lIlA was a feast to the
delightful eyes of Brahma, the chief vAyu & the dear lover of PArvathi
(Siva) who had their heads bent down before it.

The beating of time was shown (marked) by the movements of the feet. It is
abounded in sweet music & excellent dalliances. It gladdened the birds,
animals, the trees & (even the inanimate) mountains. It was bewitching with
the nectar of the merciful glance of Sridhara.

Hundreds of forms of Sri Krishna were the blue gems. The plump gopis were
necklaces of pearls or golden beads. Their hands locked mutually were the
fine strings. (When they danced round & round), they seemed to be more
beautiful than a necklace studded with blue gems & white pearls strung
together (with the strings of their hands).

It was extremely charming with Sri Krishna, the lord of Lakshmi, with His
chest shining with necklaces with the dazzle brighter than hundreds of
cupids pervading all directions, with His eyes blooming like the autumnal
lotuses & with His body decked all over with high class jewels.

It had the canopy of the aeroplanes of the gods in the company of their
consorts. All around the bevy of birds was singing like the contented
bards. The low sound of the clouds was like the deep sound of the mrdanga.
It shone with the flowers which were rained from heaven & which were made
into petals by the tread of their feet.

It had a little brilliance of the feet of Sri Krishna, the father of cupid,
who was the foe of (the demon) Sambara. It had the radiance of new sprouts
blossomed by the breeze which has its mind fixed on the lotus, which cools
atmosphere & which is the food of the serpent.

The illustrious RAsakrida reigns supreme with the sweet jingling sounds of
various glittering jewels like bangles, necklaces, etc., (of the gopis),
with the various bewitching forms of the lotus navelled Krishna & with the
strings of the lotus like hands fixed on the shoulders.

Just as the sun makes at sunrise the faces of the white lotuses bloom,
dispels the foes of darkness in all quarters & is described in poems by
eminent poets like Sri Madhwa, the sun of Panduranga Vittala (Krishna) who
made the face of His devotee Paudarika bloom, who destroyed the various
desires of the demons who were like darkness & whose greatness is described
by eminent poets like Sri Madhwa, shone here in the Rasakrida.

During the Rasakrida when the warbling notes of the singing cuckoos filled
the ears & the humming sounds of the bees heightened them, the feet of Sri
Krishna which were not seen in entirety by the vedAs even were seen &
meditated upon by the blessed animals (such as deer, etc).

The eminent Rasakrida with the flood of hundreds of forms of Lakshmi, in the
shape of gopis & so many forms of Krishna in the shape of kalpatarus, with
the flow of milk as nectar in the form of brilliance & smiles condemned the
milk ocean with a single Krishna & a single Lakshmi.

Who can describe the glory of the Rasalila which is adorned with the moon of
the very Krishna & His natural wealth of beauty? For, even the irrational
creatures like the bees, swans, parrots, cuckoos & peacocks which are
ignorant of the sport came to witness it from all around with merry minds!

May that Krishna whose RAsadance infused nobler sentiments into the very
birds, deer, trees & hills & made the have tears of joy in their eyes & made
their hairs stand on end, make me also have such a one & dance in my mind.

May that god Sri Krishna, the Lord of Lakshmi, during whose dancing the
peacocks danced, the trees rained flowers & worshipped Him, the bees with
sweet voices sang at their will, the deer visualized Him, the hordes of
serpent lords circumambulated Him tremblingly with their hoods held up, be
pleased with my worship of Him done in the form of my description of
Rasalila.

It is no wonder in this world that this RAsalila removes the single
unbearable bondage of samsara of those whose minds are intent upon it. For,
Sri Krishna has removed the three bondages or knots of each gopis of GokulA,
namely, the chignon, thebodice & the saree!

During the RAsalila, the various inimical groups by birth, viz, serpents,
peacocks & mongooses, pherunda birds, lions & elephants; cows tigers & deer;
hunters & birds gave up their mutual enmity & jealousy & were without any
attachment for their friends or foes, wives & children. May the grandeur of
the RAsalila of BrindAvan chop off the six enemies (namely passion, anger,
greed, delusion, arrogance & jealousy) lurking in my mind.

I worship this Sri Hari who shone with the splendour of His cheeks in fast &
close contact with the cheeks of the bevy of gopis whose lotus like hands
were dangling on His shoulders, who was extolled by the swan seated Brahma &
others whose soft & auspicious fingers played on the flute, whose rows of
ornaments (such as necklace & others) were slipping while dancing, who had
the complexion of the blue gem, who was bereft of all flaws & who was the
essence of this worldly life or samsara.

delivered us from all sources of fear, human & super human.

The nectar of Thy sin effacing utterances brings life & hope to those
scorched by misery. They are extolled by wise sages & the mere listening to
them would bestow auspiciousness on all- they confer every prosperity.
Those who spread them broadcast are verily magnanimous- they distribute what

When during the day, Thou art away tending the cows in the woods, to us who
are denied Thy celestial company, a moment would appear as long as an age.
And when we see again at dusk with our eyes, Thy charming face & curly hair,
we cannot but exclaim: " Stupid, indeed, is the creator who made lashes for
the eyes."

Seeing Thy majesty & slendour indicated by the charm of Thy broad chest,
conspicuous smiling face, affectionate glances & secret sympathies kindling

O adorable One! Thy manifestation is as much for the well being of the
sorrows of the people of Vraja. Do grant us a modicum of that inexpressible
remedy (Thy company) which (alone) will put an end to the ache that gnaws at
our hearts. For, are we not Thine own & has not fondness for Thee become
our very nature?

treasuring Thy soft lotus feet. But we would hold them in our bosoms with
extreme caution & tremor avoiding any injury to them. Do not, for heaven's
sake treat with those delicate feet the thorny stone paths of the forests in
Thy daily excursions. At the very thought of it, we who live for Thee &
Thee alone, are in agony.

chest is the support of all necklaces & shines with the lotus like hands of
the ladies, whose smiling face is like the moon, whose glances are bright &
full of love on account of the sport, who wears beautiful & valuable
ornaments, who is like an ocean of mercy & who has the complexion of a
cloud.

form of a broad Kalpa tree shines under the shade of the umbrella of the
serpent kind (Sesa) on the flawless throne at the foot of the Kalpa tree
studded with the precious gems, who is surrounded by His followers Brahma,
Siva & others, who is highly extolled by the good bards (like Narada &
others) & fanned by the good chowries in the form of the glances of the
gopis (who appeared once & then retired due to bashfulness.)

Bhakthi in the watersof Sri Vittalas pond like body. The waters are the
support of fish like eyes having the eddy of navel, the deep spot of ears,
the moss of hair, the fine brows, rows of folds & gentle smile for the high
billows & foam & the hands & the feet for the lotuses.

Oh, lotus like hand ! don't leave Sri Krishna's feet which are like the
rising sun. Oh, blue lotus like eye! don't leave Sri Krishna's curly locks
which are like darkness. O, the frog of mouth! don't leave Sri Krishna's
story which is like the ocean of necta. O, the house of heart! don't leave
the door of chest always. O, cage of ears! don't leave the sweet parrot
like words of Sri Suka (Bhaghavata) daily.

O, mind involving a false notion! give up the woman's body which is wrapt
with hundreds of datestable germs which are nourished by the excrements,
which is a vessel of urine & which is filled with countless puss & therefore
censurable. Instead, think of Sri Vittala who is eternal, who has a pure
body (of bliss, knowledge etc.,) who is at the beck & call of the devotees,
who has the complexion of the blue lotus, who is the dearest one & who
excites the love of the ladies of the Gokula.

Gopi: Oh, the darling Lord Krishna ! where are you going away from us?
Krishna: O, lovely woman ! To hunt.
Gopi: O, Lord ! how did that idea occur to your mind now itself. (on my
arrival)?
Krishna: I am going to shoot the lions which are covetous of your shining
breasts which have the lustre of the temples of the best elephants & also
the elephants which vie with your breasts (as though they were rival
elephants).
May that foe of demon Mura who said thus give me a keen intellect!

Oh, my fried, the deer eyed gopi! I left the herds of boars & lions without
hunting them as they were of my class (as I assumed the avataras of Boar &
man lion formerly). I left the deer also on account of the similarity of
their eyes with yours. I left the hares too suspecting that the moon would
be proud (of being without the stain in him) & that my arrow like the one
discharged at the kAkasura (during my avatar of Rama) world multiply itself
& kill all other hares in the world. I felt the bevy of peacocks as their
name Sikhandi means a eunch (& it would be infra dig for a warrior to kill

distinguish your sweet words from those of the groups of parrots & your
sweet voices from those of the groups of cuckoos. May that Sri Krishna who
consoled them thus give us joy!.

cuckoos, bees (parrots etc...) which were drawn by the sweet smell, with the

from the neck to the foot & surrounded by proud women.

garland & other ornaments, whose complexion is like that of blue lotus, who
is now on the bank of the Yamuna (after the Rasakrida was over) with the
flute in His hand, who has thirst for sporting with women & who has sportive

the pleasing thunder in the form of His sportive songs, swelling the river

with His own physical lustre, being a feast to the eyes of the young gopis,
having His abode in the sky of the heart of the host of superior devas,
having His cloth for the lightning & His dense garland for the rainbow.

the form of ignorace in my mind.

Yamunaa mae even the female river (Yamuna) red (love sick). What then of
their making the males love sick?

The river Yamuna itself was like the gopis. Its bloomed white water lily
was the dazzling face. The blue lily was its unsteady eyes. The calyx of

eddy was the navel. The billows were the hands. The shore was the bultocks
in full view. The good (white) foam was the laughter.

A gopi with a moon like face unwittingly neared Sri Krishna who had been
already embraced fast under the water by another gopi whose ornaments were
therefore, noiseless. She was angry at hearing the sound of her kissing Sri
Krishna's lips Krishna took another form before she discharged at Him the
arrow of her side look fastened to the firm bow of her brows & embraced her
consoling her with sweet words.

Those gopis of the weaker sex bathed Mukundha (Giver of Bliss) with the
waters from the leather bags in their hands. They smeared Him with the
sandal on the tips of their breasts by embracing Him. They worshipped Him
who was worthy of worship with the garlands of flowers on their heads as if
they were seeking the salvation fit for the ascetics (who perform pooja with
a bath, sandal, flowers etc).

Though Sri Krishna was bathed with the lotus leaves in the form of the hands

the group of gods & indeed earned the nature of the lord of elephants.
(IT is nature of an elephant to become soiled with dust soon after the bath.
Sri Krishna is already compared to an elephant in sloka 34.)

A young one of a bee (perchad on a beautiful calyx like a nipple) made its

it was like a rival of her plump breast, plucked it & threw it away.

A lotus had a sweet smell & many intoxicated bees hovered round it with a
series of their songs. It was liked by Brahma as his seat & the wind god

Lakshmi.

mind to enter it once more even as she does not want to enter her body
without your contact or embrace. If you don't come, O, Lord, her house will
become a veritable forest without the tree of her body (which is a
motionless as a tree).

Lord! whose heart will she not make wet with pity.

falling to the ground between her delightful pitcher like breasts for
washing His feet & hands. She bathed Him with the honey dripping from her
flowers. She offered Him by her embrace the ornaments in the form of her
limbs, the fine mark on the forehead & unguents. She gave Him the garland
of blue lotus in the form of her moving sideglances. She gave Him the
nectar in the form of her lips.
(N. B. She thus blended the worship of Krishna from paadhya to naivedya &
the amorous sports into one.)

the smell of the flowers.

Sri Vittala (Sri Krishna) who is lying on a gemset bed in the house of the
gopis along with them is like lying on the bed of Sesa in the gemset
pavilion shinning admist the oceanof milk. The white lustre of the pearls
set in the outer side of the wall of the house which spreads all around it
is the ocean of milk. The house is the pavilion. Sesa with gems on his
hoods is the gemset bed. The splendour of the gems set in the bed rising
above with that of gems on the crown of Sri Krishna robbed the splendour of
the gems on the hoods of Sesa. May Sri Vittala be pleased in such an
environment.

A gopi having curiosity in love sport plucked up courage in her mind by
force. Having lain with her two eyes closed as if she was angry, she
thought once that Krishna was sleeping. Embracing Him softly, she kissed
His bimba fruit like lips. Then even though seen by Sri Krishna, she who
was beside herself with joy did not remember her anger & did not give up the
kissing.

was wrapped with your pure, supreme brilliance & without noticing your slim
body in the midst of it, I am going beyond it (and not to another's house).
So, saying, He took hold of her soft hand. May He accept me!

actually following me, ' So, saying, that Krishna shone kissing that gopi
who has a face with a gentle smile.

got wild & bit my lips & the owund is its outcome & not by the ladys' kiss.
May this Krishna comforting her thus be ever in my mind!

by the perfect hands (rays) of the moon.

cloud). Bejewelled festoons in the form of tilaka flowers & others of
varieagated colors shone all around. The bed was of shinning sprouts lit up
with the bright light of the all pervading herbs emitting light. The
flowers mingling with the leaves formed a magnificient canopy. The group of
intoxicated bees were the song sters. Sri Krishna shone in a pleasant
atmostphere pleasing His dear gopi.

beauty. He gave up His clothes. He had the lustre of the unguent on the

of the gopi' s breasts. He stayed in the brndAvan forest. He had the pearl
necklace at the tip of His hand (to give to the gopis). He held the Kusa
grass in the form of chignon. He lived on water (the nectar) of the lips of
the gopis. He had no sleep. How can there be the talk of a paramour about
Him?
(N. B. The sages bathe in the river & are naked.. They smear their bodies
with gopichandhana. They sit in padmAsani. They live in the forests. They
hold the rosary in their hands. They wear the Kusa grass. They live upon
water only. They are always awake. How can Sri Krishna who has conquered
even the sages by His sense control be called a paramour?)

claws (nails) are in close contact with the temples of elephants in the form

like face which is in contact with its cheeks.

by the divine river Ganges & the ocean (since Krishna bathed in it, drank it
& sported there) & where the effulgent Krishna who is not fully known by the
upanishads even, is under the gopi's thumb.

light & which is always praised by such important gods as the Moon, Siva,
Indra, others.

Krishna: O, lucky one! I am a god.

Krishna: O, beautiful one! It is there on your lower lip.
Gopi: Where is then the absence of the winking of the eye lids?
Krishna: O, dear friend! It is nothing but the concentration on your various
forms of affinity.
(The Gopi repeats the question).
Krishna: Oh, dear! where is sleeplessness to me ever looking at your
exquisite beauty?
With those sweet words, the weilder of the discuss (Krishna) made her His
own.

That gopi in view of love gave Him her mind even (that is, she was always
thinking of Him). In return, He seated her who was bent on the battle of
sexual sport on His lap, embraced her with His four handsome arms ( as if
the hands were not enough) adorned her face (like the sun) which met His
eyes with the forehead mark of musk which was pleasing to her mind. May
such Vittala (one who favour the ignorant Vittaan sunyaan lati sweekaroti
iti vittalaha) be canducive to my joy.
(N. B. As the gopi gave her mind to Him with the idea of gaining His love,
Krishna seated her on Her lap. Here He bartered as a Vaishya & so He seated
her on His thigh from which sprang the Vaishya tribe. Because she was bent
on a battle which is the duty of the Ksatriyas, He embraced her with His
hand, the origin of the Kshatriya class. Her face was like the sun because
it had no castemark due to the heat of separation. So, He adorned the mark

General: When the exploits of the victorious Lord of Rukmini which cause
the happy horripilation of joy in the hearers, which remove the multitudes
of sins by their mere hearing, which give wonderful faultless & praiseworthy
meanings & the four fold objects of human life (such as dharma, artha, kAma
& moksha) to those who con over them with devotion, were expounded by the
good & eminent disputant like sukAcharya & others (in the Bhaaghavata), the
ninthe creation of great joy was made in the assemblies of the gods.
(Particular) When the exploits of the victorious Lord of Rukmini which
cause the happy horripilation of joy in the hearers, which remove the
multitudes of sins by their mere hearing, which give wonderful, faultless &
praiseworthy meanings & the four fold objects of human life (such as dharma,
artha, kaama, moksha) to those who con over them with devotion were composed
by the good & eminent Saint Vadiraja, this ninthe canto which is appreciated
in the assemblies of the gods, is over.
