Sri RukminIsha Vijaya, Canto 4, Synopsis
Once Yashodha herself was churning the curds & putting the balls of butter
in many pots with an eye on the milk pots placed on the oven. Sri Krishna
approached her for sucking milk & she was suckling Him. All on a sudden
she let Him down & rushed to the oven, since the milk was foaming up. Sri
Krishna got wild, broke the pots of curds, took the balls of butter &
disappeared. With a stick in hand she went in search of Him & found Him
sitting on a mortar & feeding a monkey. Sri Krishna was all eyes & took to
His heels.
She pursued Him, caught Him after much strain & bound Him with a short
rope. It was two inches short & she added another rope. That too was
short of two inches. She linked a third, fourth, etc,, and all the ropes
available in the house. Yet it was short of two inches. She was puzzled &
Sri Krishna pitying her sad plight, allowed Himself to be bound with the
first rope. Now He was called DamOdhara. Then she tied the mortar with
the other end of that rope so that He might not move about. Here, we may
question what mischief was done by the mortar for being tied like Sri
Krishna Sri Vadiraja answers that it was for its abetment in His theft of
curds etc... on the sling atop. He stood on the mortar & stole the curds.
Sri Krishna dragged the mortar also in between a pair of huge trees, which
were uprooted & fell down on either side without harming Him. Two angels
emerged from them & prayed to Him for having released them from the curse
of Naradha. They were the sons of Kubera, named Nalakubara & Manigriva who
showed their disrespect to Naradha by being naked before him.
Now Gokula became a city & lost its sylvan charm. Kamsa's servents ceased
to come, as none of thir predecessors turned up. Brindha one of His
devotees invited Him to her forest. So, He prompted all to shift to
BrindAvana, a very fine place. As anticipated by Sri Krishna, a servant of
Kamsa came in the shape of a calf. Catching him by the hind legs & tail,
Sri Krishna threw him over the wood apple trees. The asura fell dead & Sri
Krishna's companions feasted upon the wood apple fruits which fell down
along with him.
Then came another asura in the shape of a crane because cranes are fond of
fish & Sri Krishna was a fish in MatsyAvatara. He swallowed Krishna but
the latter burnt His throat like fire. He spat Him out & pecked Him with
his beak. Sri Krishna seized his beak & tore him into two pieces. Sri
Vadirajaru then gives a fine description of the spring season & tells the
story of the subjugation of the kAliya serpent. Sri Krishna didn't take
Balarama with Him that day & Sri Vadirajaru remarks that Balarama, an
avatara of Shesha, the serpent king wound not like the subjugation of one,
who was born in his race. Kaliya made the waters of Yamuna poisonous with
his many wives & children. The cows & cowerd boys drank the water & fell
dead. Sri Krishna brought them back to life, climbed up the only tree on
the bank & jumped into the waters to beard the lion in his den. All the
serpents hissed at Him, bit Him & coiled around Him. At one time, He was
seen above the water & at another time He sank under the water. His
companions & the cowss also did not brook that sight & all the people of
Brindavana also hurried to the spot on seeing the evil portents.
Sri Krishna having sported with the serpents for a while extricated Himself
from their clutches, seized Kaliya's tail with one hand, stood upon his
hoods, & danced upon them crushing them one after another under His feet.
The BhAghavata says that the gods & goddesses hastened to be His
accompaniments & Sri Vadiraja highlights it as follows. Brahma sounded the
mridanga, Hanuman sang as background music & Siva beat time with cymbals,
while the young crest jewel of the cowherds danced. Here too he poings out
the gradation in the hierarchy of gods. In a nautch, the dancer figures
superme, the back ground musician & the player on mridanga are equals & one
who beats time is the lowest in rank.
Kaliya was sinking & vimiting blood. His wives ran to his rescue & prayed
to Krishna to spare their husband, since His punishment was really a
blessing to him. Thereupon Sri Krishna pardoned him & told him to go back
to his native place & rid the Yamuna waters of the poison. The joy of the
whole population of Brindavana knew no bounds & they spent that night on
its bank.

Lord Sri Hari who is dear to those having the wealth of renunciation, who
commends knowledge & who is obedient to the bhaktas only, slowly approached
(after getting up from bed). His mother (Yashodha) whowas engaged in
churning curds (for giving the butter to Him) with the cluster of flowers
scattering from her braid, who was singing His own glories sung by the
Virtuous with tears of joy welling out of her affection for Him.
N. B. Renunciation, knowledge & devotion, the three essentials for God's
approuch, are hinted here.
angOjJithendhuprathimAnanam thamagam samArOpya muhumRujanthI
pangam manOjJnyAngathatham kshuDhARthishankhA sthanakShiramapAyayathsA [2]
Seating Him who had a face similar to the moon bereft of the dark spot &
wiping off the mud repeatedly on His beautiful limbs, she suckled Him
thinking that He was hungry.
thadhanu dhahanavEgAdhuthsthravathkshIralPbhAth madhujithamapahAyAjAnathI
sA jagAma
harirapi samayAhI hAnimasyai pradhAthum vyabhajathadhadhibhANdham
kShipthapAShANa svaNda: [3]
Thereafter she, being ignorant (of the divinity of Sri Krishna) & leaving
Him who had vanquished the demon Madhu, she rushed in speed for milk which
was surging up on account of the violence of fire, Sri Hari, too, in order
to give her the timely honour broke the pot of curds by throwing a piece of
stone on it.
dhadhou vidAlAya jananyadhRuShta: thadhAssamItham navanIthajAtham
kShiNOthi nUnam dhanalobhabhAjAm dhanAnTnaRhathsvathidhishya dhEva: [4]
Then Krishna without being seen by His mother gave a cat the ball of butter
brought by Him. The all witnessing Lord destroys indeed the wealth of the
greedy people by giving it to the undeserving ones.
vichArabhArARpithamAnasATho vimaRshalabhyam thamavekShya mAthA
anuvrajanthyakpRushadhapyagamyam parAnuyAthrARjithapuNyapAnchI [5]
Afterwards the mother (Yashodha) whose mind is weighed heavy with the
burden of enquiring saw Him who is attainable by secret of enquiring &
caught Him though unattainable, by her merit acquired by the pilgrimage of
following the Paramatman.
yadhIyanAma smarathAm anAnAm bibhEthi asahyOpi hi dhaNdapANi:
abhIShayadh vishvasRujAm bariShTam gRuhIthadhaNDA kila nandhArAJI

Even Yama (god of death) whom the sinners can't bear & who wields a mighty
stick in his hand is afraid of those people who remember Sri Krishna's
name. With a stick in her hand, the queen of Nanda gopa (Yashodha)
frightened indeed that Shri Krishna who is the Lord of the creators of the
universe.
ajANdakOpyAshrayarOmakUpam thamAththakOpA kila nandhagOpI
iyeSha badhdhum na hi rOSharudhdham manO namAnAthi amarAnubhAvam

The irate Yashodha (who protects Nandagopa with her services) desired to
bind that Sri Krishna whose pores of hairs are the support of crores of
BrahmAndas. It is so. The mind overpowered by anger is blind to the
powers of even the gods (or, even of those who have acquired the power from
gods.)
kRuthAgasam tham kila naiva mAthA shashAka badhdhum mama thu prathaRka:
thadhIyaramyOdhara madhyasamsTha vimukthashakthaiva na bandha AsIth [8]
The mother (Yashodha) was not able to bind Sri Krishna who committed a
fault (or who did a mischief). I guess that it was due to powers of the
liberated souls in the middle of His charming belly.
sAshAm muhu: svaprasuvam viDhAthumIshathvamapi Athmagatham mukundha:
bandham ruNadhdhi sma thadhAththadhAma sandhaRshayan svAthmani kinchidhUnam

In order to kindle in His mother the desire to bring one rope after another
again & again & thereby to show His mysterious power, Lord Mukundha (giver
of blss) prevented the binding by showing each of the ropes brought by her
to be a little less (2 inches).
suthO na mEyam harirave sAkshAdhithi prabOdhEmkurithe purandhrI
vabandha nandhasya balAnujam tham budhai: nibadhdham praNayAkhyarajjvA

When the true knowledge, 'This krishna is not my son but the very Narayana
Himself' dawned on her Yashodha bound the younger brother of Balarama (Shri
Krishna) who is tied with the rope of devotion by the jnAnis.
ashAdhyabhAgasThitha dhugdhachowRye vishAradham tham vinibadhyamAthA
ulUkhalasyApi babagdha madhyam sahAyabhUthasya thadhIyakARye

The mother (Yashodha) bound (at first) Krishna who was an expert in
thieving milk kept in an unreachable place & then tied the middle of the
mortar also which was a better in His theft.
anAhi ya: kARyavashAjjananyA shanairasausAkamulUkhalEna
vidhyAya DhrUShtam svakayOraniShtamabhIpsitham dhAthumiva rathasThe
[12]
This Krishna who was bound by the mother went slowly by virtue of His
future programme along with the mortar to powder, as it were, the sins of
the two devotees (Nalakubara & Manigriva in that mortar) & give them their
desired objects.
asajjaneShu AcharithograshikShAm svabhakthapumjeShu kRuthAm cha rakShAm
nabhasyaTho gAthumubou chikIRShan vipAtayAmAsa sa pAdhapou dvou

Afterwards, Shri Krishna uprooted these two trees as if with desire of
making the two sing in the sky respectively about the cruel punishment
meted out to the two wicked ones & the protection made in respect of the
groups of His devotees (sons of Kubera).
svabRuthyabhImARjunamadhvithIyam oriyam vidhthsu: dhayayeva dheva:
sabhUruhou aRjunasamjjnithou thou vabanja kanjAyathamanjunEthra: [14]
That Lord Krishna whose eyes are as long & delightful as lotus crushed
those two trees named Arjuna as if desirous of making the younger brother
of His servant Bhima (Arjuna) as one without a second Arjuna.
thadhangabanDhaprathibanDhapuNyabalena sidhdhou thatha uthThithou dhou
prrashamsya vRundhAvanavallabham tham thadheyathusthanmanasou svalokam
[15]
Then those two (Nalakubara & Manigriva) emerged out of arjuna trees which
were uprooted by the obstruction caused to the mortar tied to His body &
earned the merit by having removed the obstruction caused to the mortar
tied to His body & earned the merit by having removed the obstruction to
Sri Krishna, praised that Sri Krishna the Lort of BrindAvana & reached
their world having pinned their minds in Him.
gavAmshurai: gopapadhai: anObhi: samuthThadhUlI: savithu: karoudham
rurOdhadhUre kila thAm svamUdhni sa eva vodum dhruvamunninAya [21]
The cloud of dust raised by the hoofs of cows, the feet of herdsmen & the
carts prevented the mass of sun's hands (=rays) at a distance. It seemed
that the sun himself raised his hands (rays) to bear the dust on his head.
(N. B. In order to keep the holy dust of the feet of Lord Vishnu & His
devotees on his head the sun himself took up his rays which were dust laden.)

At the time of Sri Krishna's arrival that Brindavana was indeed made a fit
abode for Sri Krishna by the groups of trees with their flowers, the
parrots with their charming words, the cuckoos with their sweet voices, the
eminent peacocks by their dances, the elephants with their gait, the hills
with their flowing waterfalls, the site with many pavements of gems having
good shade & the deer with their beautiful glances.
sa labdhajanmA madhurAkhyapuRyAm vrajEbhivRudhdha: kathichidhdhinAni
upethya bRundhAvanameSha kRuShNasthridhAmathAm dhaRshayathIva dheva: [23]
This God Krishna who had His birth in the town known as Mathura grew up in
Gokula for some days & now having reached Brindavan, seemed to show that He
was one who had three places (Svethadvipa, AnantAsana & Vaikuntha)
phalai: prasUnai: payasA thRuNena vidhAya gOgOpanikAyarakShAm
vanam svanAmAnuguNa babhAja harou kimidhAsthi asAdhyam [24]
BrindAvana obtained the prosperity of its name by affording protection to
the groups of herdsmen, & the herds of cows by means pf fruits, flowers,
water & grass. In this world what is not possible when Sri Hari is pleased?
thatha: sa gOrUpadharai: niyudhyamshchachAra chArUpalamuthkShipamshcha
vanEnushikShanniva vathsadhaithyaraNam thaThOthkShepaNamameva thanvA: [25]
Then that Krishna went about (in Brindavana) fighting with the cow boys who
played the rolde of calves & throwing earnestly stones on the trees
anticipating His encounter with the demon in the form of the calf & His
throwing the body over the tree.

charan araNye raghurAmarUpam svakIyamAjJnyApayathi sma dheva:

Playing the games of bridge building etc., along with His followeres who
had the dress of monkeys & wandering in the forest, that God Krishna
reminded His previous form of Lord Rama (born in the Raghu race).
sahAnugai: gA: kila chArayantham khalObhyagAththam pashubeShAdhArI
aham mahAntham prathiyAsyathOsya pashuthmAjAnajameva manye [27]
A rogue in the form of a calf encountered that Krishna who was grazing the
cows with his followers. I think that he was not a beast now only but his
beastly nature in encountering the adept Krishna was inborn.
thadhvRundhAvanabhUgaNam padharuchA prAgagkayan sOsakRuth pashchAth
thadhgamarudhgaNam cha varayan kuRvannivAnthaRvanam
sadhbhUsvadhgaNashObhi sekhasavayOhrudhOgaNou chAshrayan
lakmIshOnukarOthi thathra vicharan shAdhUlavikrIditham [28]
The Lord of Lakshmi (Krishna) who was going about in that Brindacan
imitated the sport of a tiger by first decorating manytimes the spots of
that Brindavan by lustre of His feet, afterwards allowing the group of
winds by the lustre of His feet, by making the interior of the forest shine
by the group of suns by the lustre of His feet & His friends (even as the
SArdulavikriditametre has first magana presided over by the goddess of
Earth, afterward two sAganAs presided over by the god of VAyu, jagana
presided over by Sun god between these two ganas & two taganas presided
over by the god of the sky.)
udhakShipatham harirAthmadhORbhmagha: papAthAshu sa vathsadhaithya:
vrajAdhinAThasya sa eva dhaRmo gRuhIthamAyasya cha thasya pAtha:

Sri Krishna threw the demon up with His two hands. But that demon of a
calf fell all at once. It is proper for Krishna the lord of Gokula &
protector of calves to throw the demon of the form of calf. It is also
proper for that cunning demon to fall down without enjoying the protection
by Krishna.
sa pAthayAmAsa pathankapithThaphalAni lOladhrumasanchayebhya:
thaThAhi kRuShNaprathipakShipaksha: kaTham na pAthaikaphalathrilOkyAm

That demon, while falling down, made the fruits of the adjacent wood apple
trees fall down from the groups of trees that were shaken. It is just so,
how cannot the ally of the enemy of Sri Krishna in the three worlds have
the chief fruit of falling down then itself?
anyOnyAshritha rAgarajjuvithathe samshRuthyabhEghadhrUme samgRugya
prathikalmabjamusvAn bhudUkthe supaRNAniha
tha vishva dhUbhuthalubdhakam dhithisutha: shrUthvA bakObyAyayou nUna
mInathanum thimingalamiba vyathsasthabudhdhiRbaka: [31]
In every kalpa, Sri Krishna (the hunter) spreads the net made of the ropes
of mutual love between jivas in this world on the tree of samsAra that can
never be cut down (except by His grace) & eats (kills) the birds in the
form of souls beginning from BrahmA to the ants. Hearing that this
wonderful hunter of the universe had the body of a fish, the son of Diti, a
perverted demon, took the form of a crane & approached Sri Krishna like a
crane approaching a whale.
kRuShNa thvannAma jigvA na kaThayathi mamethyAsyamAdhaRshayan svou pakShou
no kRuShNapakShasthvathi bishadhayithum prokShapannamgriyugmam
pashchAdhbhAge vidhunvan harinilayamahIsangabhIthyeshakasham mathvA
vyOmAdhvanAsou yadhukulathilakam sathvarObhyAjagAma [32]
This (demon) Baka seemed to say with his mouth open: 'My tongue does not
utter your name, Krishna'. In order to make clear that he was not the
friend of Krishna, heflapped his wings widely & waced his two legs at his
back. For fear of the contact of the earth which was the abode of Krishna
& thinking the sky to be Siva's hair, he came in haste towards the foremost
of the Yadu clan (Krishna) by the path of the sky.

punashcha chachChaRdha sa eva nUnam nirakramIththasya hRudhOdhapURNAth [33]
After his coming this rogue (Baka) swallowed Sri Krishna & the latter who
was within his belly burnt like fire & stopped his breathing. The former
vomitted Him again. Sri Krishna Himself came out of Baka's belly as it was
filled with sin (& not by his vomitting).
prAgbAlagraharUpiNI, sa shakate sankalpya rajjugragAm thadh bAhAn
kharakeshivathsavRuShabhAn ni:sheShadhaithyAsuvath
samyOjyAnilarUpadhaithyamadhunA thath chigvAmathyadhbhutham kRuShNA
preShayathIva hasthagabako gAdam thama: prApayan [34]
Sri Krishna who had BakAsura in His hand thought of making the seizer of
children (PuttanA) the reins holder in the cart of SakatAsurA & twister of
tails of drawing animals for goading them to go further, making the demons
Khara (ass) kesi (horse), Vatsa (calf) & VrsabhA (bull) the drawing
animals; & making TrnAvarta (VAyu) who was like the vital air of all the
demons the traveller in that cart & now seemed to send them all along with
Bakasura, the ensign of the cart to the very dreadful & densely dark hell
which was the flag of that cart.
pathaththriNam tham parigRugya dhoubhRyA vibhidhya thuNdam vinipAthya bhUmou
sa yAthanAmInabhujam bidhAthum nyayOjayath nArakavApikAsu [35]
Sri Krishna catching hold of the bird (Baka), tearing his mouth & throwing
him on the ground despatched him to the wells in the hell to make him eat
the fish of cruel suffering.
anyOnyAshritha rAgarajjuvithathe samshRuthyabhEghadhrUme samgRugya
prathikalmabjamusvAn bhudUkthe supaRNAniha
tha vishva dhUbhuthalubdhakam dhithisutha: shrUthvA bakObyAyayou nUna

While the breeze was blowing, the wife of the traveller who was grief
stricken sprinkled her tears on the wind hoping, 'may my husband who would
be touching this breeze on the way know my sorrow which would be mentioned
by the groups of friends in the form of female bees.'

The group of paramours prompted by the spring season removed the cloth of
the lustrous breasts of women & made the mark of the crescent moon with
their nails thereon as if to create secretly a new Siva.
(N. B. Since Manmatha was burnt by Siva, the spring season was angry. As
he could not defeat, the strong Siva in open fight he desired to create
another Siva secretly. He therefore made the paramours create the crescent
moon on the breasts of women with their nails & make them naked by removing
their clothes. Possession of the crescent moon on the head & nakedness are
the marks of Siva.)

The pair of breasts smeared with Kasthuri have blueness. The head has
flowers strewn thereon with the two lotus like hands (of the paramour).
Residing in the heart & invisibility are brought about by tight embrace.
Delightfulness is caused on the face by enjoyment for a long time.

That breeze which was the friend of cupid-fire (in kindling love), which
bore the fragrance of the flowers & which was dear & cool, was enjoyed all
around by the men who had finished the fight with cupid & had exhausted faces.

The spring season, as if to speed up the mind of Sri Krishna who would be
begetting his master cupid as Pradyumna manifested his courtesy by means of
the southern breeze, his love by means of the tender sprouts, sweetness by
means of the cuckoos, pleasing words by means of the group of parrots,
songs by means of the bees, bath by means of honey, worship by means of
blossoms & the umbrella by means of the shades of trees. What will not
these do to achieve their purpose?

slender creepers though they are moved by the wind. Therefore, what wonder
is there in the animated lovers desiring the company of women?

Achyutha having flowers conquered the spring season with His eminent sprout
like lower lip, hands & legs, the captivating sound of the flute, melodious
words & the breath of the mount as wind.

At one place, the band of excellent servants of Sri Krishna who was resting
under a tree in the forest bright with brouad sprouts massagedHis lotus
like feet in order to remove the fear of the universe from the KAliya
serpent (for He was going to subdue the serpent with His foot).

In one place, Sri Krishna, the best of all- knowing people like BrahmA &
others imitated the dance of the peacock with His side locks of hair
decorated with peacock feathers as though with the idea of practising His
skill in dancing in the courtyards of the hoods of the serpents (Kaliya).

That Krishna being the best swan dwelling in the lotus like hearts of the
sages imitated the cooing sound of the groups of swans which was delightful
to the ear & mind as if with the inclination to practise the sound suitable
to the species of swans.

The hot rayed sun with his mind as if subdued by the spring (by the
intoxicating drink) approached (fell in love with) the deer eyed lady of
the western direction guarded by Varuna & let himself fall down from the
sky on account of the minds of the horses being prevented by the sin of his
contact with the lady.
(N. B. The sun set in the evening in the west. The poet says that it seems
as if he fell down from the sky on account of his contact with the western
direction (lady) & the inability of his horses to go forward on account of
this sin).

That Krishna, the jewel among men, who is surrounded by the herds of merry
cows & playing on the flute with His friends gladdened the lovely gopis
while entering His house in the evening.

Sri Krishna, the father of cupid, who was served by the eager women in each
& every house here & there & who had the delightful attraction in His side
looks & gentle smile shone like the lord of night (moon).

The Lord of the yadus (Sri Krishna) slowly reached His clean house along
with His friends & made the slowly moving (inactive) night flee to a great
distance by means of His bodily lustre which pervated everywhere &
gladdened the people remembering Him.
svathanayAm saritham viShavaRjithAm karuNayA hariradhya kariShyathi
ithi mudheva giri ravirIkShithum paravashu ravashobhithamAruhath [55]
The sun who is under the control of the overlord mounted the eastern
mountain which shone with chirpings of birds as if to see with joy that
Krishna who was going to free His daughter, the Yamuna river, from the
poison of Kaliya on that day.
thadhanu bhOgikulAgrajamagrajam sa hi visRujya thadhanvayasambhavam
namayithum yamunAm agamadh vibhu: sabhujagA bhujagAnthakavAhana: [56]
Afterwards, that powerful Krishna who had the killer of serpents (Garuda)
for His vehicle left behind His elder brother (Balarama), the foremost in
the group of serpents & went to the Yamuna river to subdue KAliya who was
born in his race.
(N. B. BalarAma is the avatara of Sesha, king of serpents).
yAdhi rasAthalamEthi thadhaimyaham dhamayithum thamithIva sa pAdhapAth
apathadh ambuni vismayakAraka: savayasAm vayasAmiva vallabha [57]
'If he goes to the nether world (PAthala), I will go there also to subdue
him.' With this idea as it were, that Krishna jumped into the water (of
the YamunA) like the lord of the birds (Garuda) from that tall tree to the
wonder of His friends.
kRuShNAlinganakAtharai: karasamai rOmgaiRnivRuththairiva svaprAnthasThitha
thathpAdhAngayurasA dhaRthum dhiyevARkajA
supremAmbhudhi mishrANAdhiva jagadhbanDhasya pAthAdhiva snimDhA tham

That, afectionate daughter of the Sun (YamunA) swelled by embracing with
her bosom that Krishna with His beautiful form like cupid's. She did so as
if with the groups of receding floods which are long like the hands eager
to embrace Krishna, as if with the intention of bearing on her chest His
footprint found on her shore, as if due to mingling with the ocean of love
& as if due to the falling (at her feet) of Krishna who is worthy of being
saluted by the world.
(N. B. Here it is hinted that KAlindi is one of the chief eight queens of
Krishna. The figure of speech is malotpreksA).
kalilayanthamapa: puruShOththamam phaNipathi: kila dhamshithumagrahIth
na hi sa vEthi balam shravaNOjJitha: paramayA ramayA shruthibhi: sthutham

The master of the serpents (Kaliya) welcomed (to death) the Supreme Person
(Sri Krishna) who was disturbing the waters in order to bite Him. For,
that KAliya had no ears to hear His might extolled by the supreme goddess
Lakshmi (in the form of DurgA) in her Vedic texts.

purOdhAya yayU rAmam sheShamARgagathA iva [60]
The cowherds who were struck with fear by the evil portents (such as
earthquakes, comets, etc), were desirous of seeing Sri Krishna & went off
having BalarAma in front like the souls going for liberation along the path
of Sesa.
(N. B. There are two paths of Moksha 1. Garuda mARga & 2. SheshamARga).

'O, cowherds of Gokula ! Let us go to the Yamuna along this path where the
foot prints of Sri Krishna with the signs of flag, etc., are visible'.

Seeing His people who reached the shore by means of such examination, that
Krishna danced on the hood of the serpent. It is right. Who will not
dance profusely on the arrival of good friends?

The world adored Krishna danced on the courtyard of the bejewelled hoods of
the black serpent KAliya as if desirous of making His feet which are the
prinicipal deity of Garuda's palms as the medicine for vomitting the poison
& thereby making Kalindi bereft of poison by His subduing.

Holding up the shinning tail of the lord of serpents (Kaliya), this Krishna
crushed his mouths which werepolluted by poison & sweat as if to drive out
all the unbearable poison inside through the bent mouths of KAliya.
sa dhamdhashUkasya mukham viRbhidhamsthadhIyapuchCham jagRuhe kareNa
yaThAparAdham nanu dhaNdadhAthA nirAgasam kam varayenna shouri:
Tearing asunder the mouths of the serpent with His feet, Sri Krishna held
its tail with His hand. Sri Krishna who punishes the sinners according to
their sin will certainly entertain anyone who is sinless.
vidhArayannapyahirAjamoulim kareNa paspaRsha thamaRthabandhu:
nijeShu shikShApi hi thasya viShNO: param parAnugrahahethureva [66]
Sri Krishna, the friend of the distressed, though crushing the hoods of the
king of serpents (Kaliya) touched him with His hand. Even the punishment
given by Him who is no other than Vishnu is the cause of greater grace to
others.

Siva, the lotus seated BrahmA & other gods who are His servants appeared in
the sky all around & stood praising Him who was dancing as if to remove the
ignorance about Krishna on the part of the afflicted KAliya.
