- Introduction from Srimad Bhagavatam Book by Prof. K.T.Pandurangi
It is a brief commentary on Bhagavata by Sri Anandatirtha. Out of 18000 verses of Bhagavata about 1600 verses are commented upon in this commentary. Its purpose is two fold.
1) Bhagavata is a work of Pancharatra tradition. Good many terms of Pancharatra theology needed explanation and clarification. This is done by quoting the source passages from Pancharatra literature itself.
2) A few verses and the expressions in Bhagavata appear to yield advaita interpretation. Two early commentators viz chitsukha and Punyaranya had utilised these expressions and the verses to give an advaitic interpretation to the whole of Bhagavata. This had cut the very roots of Bhakti and the concept if the God as Gunapurna. The concepts of nirguna Brahman and bhakti cannot go togather. Sri Madhvacharya's Tatparyanirnaya properly interprets these expressions and the verses.
Another important aspect of Bhagavata is, it describes mystic experiences in many places. Aparoksha anubhava and avadhutacharya are two significants items. These are described in Samadhi bhaasha . These aspects are explained in Tatparyanirnaya.
Bhagavata also refers to the episodes adn the events of other PuraNas, particularly Mahabharata, Harivamsha and Vishnupurana. Some difference among these are reconcilled. Thisi is neatly stated in Madhvavijaya as under :

Sri Madhvacharya is known for Quoting from a large number of source works, particularly from Pancharatra works. Among such source works largest are quoted in Tatparyanirnaya only. About 224 works are quoted in Tatparyanirnaya.Pancharatra works generally contain ther terms Samhita, tantra, viveka. Rare works of Nirukta,Grammar, Lexicon are also quoted. The Tatparyanirnaya is a rich trasure to interpretational literatrue.
The commentaries on Bhagavata and Bhagavata Tatparyanirnaya
There are fifteen commentaries on Bhagavata and Tatparyanirnaya put togatehr. However, only one commentary viz Padaratnavali of Sri Vijadhvajatirtha is on the entire Bhagavata. Among the other commentaries two commentaries vix Sti Yadupatyacharya's Prakashika and Sri Satyadharma's commentary put togather cover the entrie Bhagavata. Sri Yadupatyacharya covers the first five skandhas and a portion of seventh skhandha while Satyadharma covers from sixth to twelve excepting the eleventh. The eleventh is covered by Srinivasa Tirtha's commentary. Durghatabhavadipika of Sri Satyabhinava also covers the entire Bhagavata. However, it is very brief and does not cover all verses. Its main object is to answer certain criticisms against Tatparyanirnaya.
