2/3/17
Today is the due date for HW 2. Complete it by the due date or use a late pass to get a 3 day extension. When HW is in review mode, you can still open it and try problems, but work is not saved and scores are no longer recorded. It's only for your own review. Today is the last day to drop the class with no notation on your permanent record. Test 1 starts next Sat. See Test info for more details. The link to make an appt is below. Choose computer test. After making an appt, complete the assignment called HW T1 appt. no later than 2/8. Most of you are keeping up and doing well. That's the key to success. Have a great weekend!
2/3: DUE DATE: HW 2

2/8: DUE DATE: HW T1 Appt
2/10: DUE DATE: HW 3

2/5/17
Keep in mind that I have to grade certain HW problems (like #1 of your intro, or the HW where you enter your test appt) by hand, so your grade will show up as zero for a while.
https://sites.google.com/site/harlandclass/home/current/latepass
If you do a HW problem that has to be hand-graded by me (such as a problem where you might enter information such as #1 in HW 0, or state when you are taking a test as in HW T1 Appt, etc), you will see an x by the problem and a score of zero until I grade it by hand. It's impossible for me to grade it the second you submit it as I wait until after the due date to grade it. It might be a week or so after the due date until you see credit for that kind of problem. When you submit a HW problem like that, you will see this note:
Note: This question contains parts that can not be auto-graded. Those parts will count as a score of 0 until they are graded by your instructor.
If you submitted an answer or uploaded something, and see the above note, you should still be able to see your answer. If you want to look at it later before it's in review mode, go to the HW assignment, click on it, and then the problem number. You should be able to see what you answered or uploaded, or you might have to click on Reattempt problem first. At that point, you can change what your wrote or uploaded, and resubmit, or simply look at what you already did.
2/6/17
I am getting a lot of emails and questions that have been answered in previous emails and announcements, and are often also in the forums. You should be reading all the forum posts for questions on math. Also see Non-math Questions to Instructor about Course, requirements, etc. Always check forums and announcement to make sure you do not miss important info.
If you haven't scheduled your appt to take Test 1, do that immediately, and then complete HW T1 appt by Wed, the due date to enter the info. I do NOT get the info from the APC, which is why you need to enter that info yourself in MyOpenMath.
Finish all of Unit 1 this week. Videos, PDF, and answers are at https://sites.google.com/site/packet1int/. In Unit 1, you'll notice I changed the name of HW 1 to HW 1A, and added an optional assignment called HW 1B. HW 1B contains problems that were not available when I created HW 1A. Problems like these were covered in the assigned videos and are in Packet 1. Most of these are domain/range problems. Problems like these will be on Test 1. This HW assignment is optional and not part of your grade, but consider doing these so you'll be more prepared for the test.
Also, there is a folder called Practice Tests in the Unit 1 folder which contains 2 Practice Tests. Open it and read the Practice Test Info. Taking a Practice Test in a test setting (quiet place, timed, no notes, etc.) allows you to practice taking something similar to how the real test will be, which you will take on a computer. The password, and all info is provided.
WHEN YOU GO TO YOUR PROCTORED TEST APPOINTMENT (Feb 11-16), YOU MUST LOG INTO MYOPENMATH USING YOUR USERNAME AND PASSWORD. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT! TRY LOGGING IN ON ANOTHER COMPUTER AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THAT INFO AVAILABLE. IF YOU CAN'T LOG IN, YOU WILL EARN A ZERO. SO IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT. ALSO BRING A VALID PHOTO ID TO YOUR APPOINTMENT. GET THERE A LITTLE EARLY.
Ideally, turn in your Unit 1 Packet before or after you take your test. If you forget to drop it off as directed, the latest you may drop it off for credit is at noon on the day after the deadline to take your test. Don't forget to completely do every single problem, to show ALL of your work and steps, and to include both your and my name on the front cover. See below.
Each Unit Packet should be completely done before taking your test. I collect and grade the entire packet at once (on completeness showing all your work) as part of your written work. Submit your packet (make sure both your and my name is on front cover) at the Admin Bldg at San Elijo, or the 3600 building at Oceanside--there are night slots at each building if doors are locked. Students printing the PDF must submit all pages in order using a binder clip, professional stapler, or flat pronged portfolio folder. Do not use binders. Ideally, drop it off WHEN YOU COME TO TAKE A TEST. If you do not do that, the latest you may submit it for credit is by noon the day after the deadline to take the test. Click Here
to see how to get it to me via mail. It must be postmarked by deadline for credit.
IF YOU CANNOT BRING THE PACKET TO CAMPUS FOR ANY REASON, INCLUDING LIVING OUT OF THE COUNTY, STATE, OR COUNTRY, YOU MAY MAIL IT TO ME. INFO AT: https://sites.google.com/site/harlandclass/home/outofcounty
Scanning and emailing every page of each packet in order as one PDF is another option, but very time-consuming due to the number of pages.
Have a great week, study your video notes, Packet 1, and HW 1-3, do the Practice Tests, and ace the test!

2/8/17 Info

This is a reminder to anyone who may not be following the Attendance Policy. Most of you are logging in regularly and keeping up. If you haven't entered answers in all 3 HW assignments, you are out of compliance. Make sure you always log in at least once each week, and do some of the HW by the due date each Friday. If you don't finish, use a late pass, and complete it by Monday. Also, make sure you take your test, or contact me if you have an emergency.
Attendance Policies: Attendance is monitored by your verified participation in class each week in the following ways. You may be dropped if you do not follow the requirements below. Contact me if you have an emergency and are unable to fulfill these policies.
1. Log in to our MOM class often to read announcements and check for forum posts or messages. You must submit answers to HW problems due each week. Logging in without answering HW problems, using a late pass, opening a HW assignment but not submitting any answers, clicking other links or watching videos does NOT count toward attendance. ALWAYS CO AT LEAST ONE HW PROBLEM IN EACH HW BY THE ORIGINAL DUE DATE. You should spend a minimum of 4 hours a week in MOM unless you complete all HW ahead of the due date.
NOTE: MYOPENMATH keeps a log of days/times/total number of hours you are in the system each day.
2) Show up and take all tests during your scheduled appointment time. Be on time with your valid photo I.D. If you do not take a proctored test by its deadline, you may be dropped unless I am notified within a day of the deadline.
2/16/17
Today, Thursday, 2/16/17, is the deadline to take Test 1. If you miss it for any reason, including emergencies, your grade on the final will replace the zero.
The latest you can drop off the Unit 1 Packet (if you haven't done so already) is noon on Tuesday, 2/21. The campus is closed Friday-Monday for the Pres. Day weekend, but you can drop off your packets. You should begin Unit 2 now. HW 4 is due next Friday.

I hope you had a good weekend. If you reply to this email, or write me a new email, always sign your first and last name and that you are in Math 64.
To see your grade in the class, click on Gradebook when you log in.
You should all be working on Unit 2. All info is in the Unit 2 folder in the HW/Due Date folder. See the Unit 2 schedule below. Remember to first transcribe the assigned videos for your video notebook. Those are listed at https://sites.google.com/site/packet2int/home/p2videos. Also, do the problems in the packet and check answers, which is at https://sites.google.com/site/packet2int/home/p2solutions.
When you open the HW/Due Dates folder, the first folder you see is titled REQUIRED HW: Open & enter your Appt date/times for each test It has the required HW where you enter the info about the appointment you made for each test. See below Please schedule all your appointments for Test 2, Test 3, and the final exam. The early bird has the best chance of getting the date/time they want. The longer you wait to take care of this, the least likely you'll get your preferred date/time. So schedule all of your appointments today, and then open the folder, and complete the assignments HW T2 Appt, HW T3 Appt, and HW FE Appt.

I've graded all the Unit 1 packets that were turned in, and entered your score out of 50 points in MyOpenMath. Go to the Gradebook to see your score, and your current percent in the class. Pick up your graded Unit 1 Packet by 3/10/17 during business hours the same place where you dropped it off.
I highly recommend you pick up your packet to make sure your grade was entered correctly and for review. Any packet not picked up by 3/10/17 will be recycled. Please pick it up soon!
Remember to follow the attendance policy from the syllabus (see below) so that you are not dropped. That means if you haven't already done so to log in to MyOpenMath and complete at least some questions in HW 4 no later than Friday, 2/24/17, the due date. Redeeming a late pass is fine, but does not count toward attendance. You need to open the HW and do problems.
Attendance Policy: Attendance is monitored by your verified participation in class each week. You may be dropped if you do not follow the requirement below. Contact me any time you are unable to fulfill the policy.
1. Log in to our MOM class often to read announcements and check for forum posts or messages. You must submit answers to HW problems due each week. Logging in without answering HW problems, using a late pass, opening a HW assignment but not submitting any answers, clicking other links or watching videos does NOT count toward attendance. You should spend a minimum of 4 hours a week in MOM unless you complete all HW ahead of the due date.
Keep up the good work! Most of you are putting in the time, doing the packets and online HW, and keeping up. That is the key!
