Relaxation Techniques: Deep Breathing, Muscle
Relaxation and Daydreaming.
•Deep Breathing – Control your breathing by taking several slow, deep
inhalations followed by exhalations.
•Muscle Relaxation (the tense and relax body scan) – Scan the body for tension, exaggerate tension points and then relax. Start at toes and feet and progress through calves, legs, abdomen, arms, shoulders, neck and face.
•Daydream – pick your favorite vacation spot or place that you love. Imagine that you’re there, visualizing all the details and the accompanying feelings.
Before The Test
•Ask instructor about test (format, topics, etc.).
•Make sure you understand the material prior to the test.
•Create practice exams from books, study guides, other tests.
•Rework problems from homework and previous exams.
•Sleep well and eat well prior to the exam. Practice deep breathing.
•Arrive on time.
•Avoid cramming.
During The Test
•Write down key information.
•Read and listen to all instructions.
•Determine which questions are worth the most.
•Pace yourself - If you get stuck on a question, mark it and come back to it later.
•Do not rush – use all the time allowed.
•Review your test.
After The Test
•Check for correct and incorrect responses.
•Make sure you understand the concepts and how to solve problems that you got wrong.
•Evaluate study methods and improve test preparation strategies if necessary.
•Make an appointment with your professor to get feedback or assistance.
•Seek tutoring and other assistance.
