"Passing the Torch"
Would you like to have Our Olympics come to you? Well we just might be able to make that happen!
"Passing the Torch" is a new way that we will host and hold Our Olympic events when possible. In the beginning of Our Olympics, events were held in the La Crosse area and all of the athletes were friends that lived in the area. Now, as we relocate across the country and new friendships are made, Our Olympics must remain mobile to stay relevant for more than just a few of us. With "Passing the Torch" we will continue our tradition of competition by picking up the format of the actual Olympics: adopting a host city!
How it works:
- Anyone may send in bids to hold a weekend of events where you live.
- Bids should include dates and a list of events, and will describe how we will accomplish the events, lodging, and other activities.
- Several months prior to the events we will select one of the bids.
- During the weekend of events the host person will allow competitors from out of town to stay in their home, camp outside, or arrange other lodging.
- The host will also provide a schedule of activities which may include meals, however they are not obligated to provide meals.
- The Olympic flag will be flown outside the host house and all athletes will be invited to represent their colors and flags the whole weekend.
- Reference the "Example Bid" sub page for a better idea of what the bid may look like.
Benefits of this format:
- No one will be permanently excluded from events due to location.
- Thorough planning will allow for more authentic events.
- Athletes will have time to train for or learn the events prior to competing.
- Competitors will be more committed to attending the events.
- Events can play on the strengths of the host location.
