65 years passed by….

A quick glance on achievements of SAMAJ

On a solemn and unique occasion like this, it is but appropriate that we should give you a brief history of samaj, its origin, progress and achievements during last 65 years of its highly useful and purposeful existence.

On 24-02-1945 few members of GSB community residing in Hubli thought it fit and necessary to form an association of their own. This creativity made 25 persons convened on 24-02-1945 under the presidency of Shri R P Wagle at Canara Bank premises Broadway. Thus GSB SAMAJ at Hubli came into existence and Dr S M Kamat is the first elected Founder President. Registered on 06-03-1947 under societies registration act 21 of 1860 at subsequently registered under public trust act 1950 on 29-05-1953.

Since the inception of our samaj, all of our mathadhipatis blessed us. H H Shrimad Sukateendra Swamiji with their beloved Shishya Sudheendra Swamiji of Kashimath visited and blessed our samaj in February 1945. H H expressed their ardent desire to possess a plot and erect a suitable building and conduct activities. With object

1. To bring about the religious, social, cultural welfare of the community
2. arrange the periodical visits of mathadhipatis
3. Assistance to the poor
4. Assistance to the deserving students of the samaj
5. Accommodation to students
6. To arrange the proper cremation
7. Uplift the community
8. To promote and encourage the development of KONKANI language

H H Shrimad Sukrateendra Swamiji initialed token donation and also generous donation of Rs 8000/- from Kamat(Daddikar) brothers. Also R A Kamat of Dharwad sold the plot in the Jayachamaraj Nagar for the purchased price and also donated Rs 1000 towards the building fund. Foundation stone was laid on 06-06-1947 by H H Shrimad Dwarkanath Teertha Shripad Wadeyar Swamiji of Parthagali math. New building named SARASWATI SADAN was declared opened on 24-06-1945 by Shri V S Kudva. Hence 24^th June every year is observed as SAMAJ DAY.

Our Samaj has been privileged and fortunate to conduct chaturmasa vrita by H H Dwarkanath Teertha Wadeyar Swamiji and H H Shrimad Vidyadhiraj Teertha Shripad Wadeyar Swamiji of Parthagali Math.

Vasant Utsav of H H Shrimad Sudheendra Teertha Swamiji of Kashimath has been conducted in 1983. In 1965, Shri S P Kamat on his own initiative sponsored the publication of “GSB SAMAJ - WHO IS WHO” directory which was edited by Shri H R Prabhu.

Managing committee is well supported with MAHILA VIBHAG.

In 1995, Golden Jubilee of our SAMAJ has been observed. And in the same year our dynamic President and all members of samaj helped purchasing adjoining property bearing CTS – 4594 ward 1 of JC Nagar at a reasonable price with a view to erect multi storeyed Golden Jubilee Memorial Building for the samaj activities.

The land beside the Saraswati Sadan was purchased and a hall with a celler named LAXMI SADAN was constructed in the year 2001. The main donor for this building was Shri S P Kamat and the hall is named as “Shri Sheshagiri Pandurang Kamat Sabagraha”. Then in the year 2007, a well equipped first floor for Laxmi Sadan was built. The hall is named as SHANTERI SABAGRAHA as per the wish of the main donor Shri R N Nayak.

Cremation set facilities for the cremation of deceased members is available round the clock at samaj office.

In our last 65 years, all achievements were made possible with god’s grace, blessings of mathaphipatis, self services, toils, talents and sacrifices of our founder members, all members of the past and present management and above all the unstinted co-operation and encouragement by all our members and families.

Concessions for all halls upto 50% rates will be charged for hall bookings. Desired members will get maximum concession as per discretion of the president.

65 years passed with a glory,
