Welcome to Groby Allotment Society

Making Groby Greener

Coffee Morning fundraising exceeds expectations

It was a very special fund raising coffee morning on Sunday 1st October, with all takings from the food and tombola being donated to the Macmillan charity supporting people living with cancer.

"Everyone was just so generous," said Carol, the Allotment Society Secretary.  "We raised the amazing amount of £633.40 in just under 2 hours!  Our target was £120, so we have far exceeded that and all the cakes that people kindly baked and donated, went like hot cakes. Thanks to all the helped and everyone who attended."

 Projects for 2023?

The Open Day on SundayAugust 14 went well, despite the very hot weather,   It gave potential tenants the chance to  have a look around the allotments and participate with members in activities for adults and children.

Coffee and more on Sundays

The normal monthly Sunday morning sessions are continuing - posters will be displayed around the sites.

Groby Allotment Society leases the two sites in the village from the Parish Council and is responsible for their management and day to day maintenance.  The Society handles all aspects of the letting of plots in addition to setting and collecting the annual rents payable.

Tenants are  required to be members of the Society.  Anyone who helps you tend your plot must also be a member of the Society.   Click this link to read more and print an application form.

Hard work meant the social area was ready before lockdown

Jamie Craig, an allotment tenant since 1974, cut the tape to open the social area just before the 2020 lockdown.

Thanks to a great bunch of volunteers who  completed the work over the winter months.  It was aided by a 50% grant from HBBC allowing us to purchase the concrete garage, now our Allotment Shop.

Report any suspicious behaviour

Sadly the Groby allotments sometimes suffer from vandalism or thefts of fruit and vegetables, so vigilance remains important.  CCTV has now been installed.  Be sure to report all incidents to the police by ringing 101, or by email to  contactus@leicestershire.pnn.police.uk
