Apply to plant a tree

Guidelines - you must have approval before planting.

Applications should give as much detail as possible and be in accordance with the tenancy agreement, which includes a requirement that any trees planted must be at least 1.5 metres from and not overhang any other adjacent plot, footpath, roadway or boundary fence, or as otherwise stipulated in the approval by the Society. The trees must be kept pruned and disease free.

Only the following rootstocks are allowed. Please make sure that the tree you wish to plant is from one of the specified varieties.

The following may assist with the application and are for the planting of top fruiting trees including Apple, Pear, Plum, Damson, Gage, Peach, Nectarine, Apricot and Cherry.

M27: Extremely Dwarfing

Requires careful cultivation on fertile soil, must be kept free from weeds and competitive plants. Requires staking throughout the life of the tree. Used for stepovers, dwarf bush and pyramid trees and as oblique cordons for triploid varieties. Maximum height and spread 1.8 metre (6 ft).

M9: Dwarfing

Requires good soil conditions, careful cultivation. Must be kept free from weeds and competitive plants. The root system is brittle, tree needs permanent staking. Suitable for cordons, dwarf bush trees and pyramids. Maximum height and spread 1.8 metre- 3 metre (6-10 ft).

M26: Dwarfing

One of the most useful rootstocks, suitable for small gardens. It will require staking for the first four or five years. Probably the best rootstock for minarettes, cordons, suitable for bush trees and for two or three tier espaliers. Maximum height and spread 2.5 – 6 metre (8-12 ft).
