Dr. Pappas is an Associate Director at the FDA, Center for Biologics Evaluation and Research (CBER). We works building real-world evidence (RWE) system. Recently
he published an article in Blood Advances about the American Society for Hematology Data Hub as a RWE resource.
He joined the FDA, Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH) as the Associate Director for National Medical Device Evaluation in January 2015.
Dr. Pappas selected by Mayor of DC to head HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD, and TB Administration for the Department of Health District of Columbia. See links for Washington Post press coverage.
Dr. Pappas traveled to Juba, Southern Sudan to assist in strategic planning for the Ministry of Health at the invitation of WHO Fall 2010.

Dr. Pappas's book (co-editor Omar Khan) with APHA Press was published in 2012.
My career has been at the interface of science and policy -- in government, private sector, and academia. Engagement with multiple stakeholders and communities has been central to my work, establishing relationships and seeking to understand these partners. "Pakistan's Public Health Hijinks" describing community efforts to build a sewer line in Karachi, Pakistan "Anthropology Now" Spring 2010.
Dr. Pappas's, "The Magic City: unemployment in a working class community" published in 1989 by Cornell University Press is an ethnographic study of Barberton, Ohio on the consequences of the major economic downturn of the 1980's in the United States. Because of renewed interest in the issues raised in the book due to the 2008 economic downturn, Cornell reprinted the book in fall of 2009.
