Who were they?
AND
What didn't they SLAM?
......................................................................................Hi, talk about a blast from the past, wow. I don't know who came up with the idea for SLAM, all I remember is that dinky did something with sufnarsky and a bunch of saw it/or heard about it and the idea was to make a joke about it. So off we went to Steve Winn's house with beer and pencils in hand and sat down and started bs'ing about it. d-tom started drawing the incident and before you know it we had a paper. We drove to pawlet and copied it at Billy's parents office and brought it to school the next day, it was a hit with everybody but dinky and Phil Martin. I would have to see the copies to be sure of the incident that started it.
It wasn't frog day but it came awful close. After the second issue martin and dinky wanted to suspend all of us, dinky got on the pa. and requested that all those responsible for the paper to report to his office, I think the whole school was in the corridor outside your moms office. bud reed got s-tom to tell him who was involved(by threatening to withhold his recommendation for ROTC) and sat down with the original group. he explained to us that martin was serious about us not being able to graduate and we had to stop printing. someone contacted the ACLU on behalf of us and a standoff ensued. we agreed to stop as long as we all got to graduate. Things cooled off and life went on.
Somebody got the bright idea of getting t-shirts made with the slam logo on the front(that's what happens when you let a creative bunch like us out of school at one and give us the whole afternoon to drink beer and bs). We all showed up at school wearing the t shirts so that everybody would know exactly who was behind slam. Dinky and Martin were not amused and it must have been right near the end of the year because nothing came of it. Off the top of my head that's what I remember.
Thanks for the memory.

We ordered the t-shirts from a screen printing company that we found in the back of a magazine. Dave T. did the artwork.
SLAM was typed up in my mothers cellar after school. The data processor is long gone, that we used to type SLAM on.
I think there may have been some beer involved.

I remember the trip to Pawlet to make copies of the paper, Billy was driving, Jill was in the middle, and I was riding shotgun.
Kate did not want to know what we were doing and we did not tell her.
I do remember that Billy and I were not the braintrust of the group.
