Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world” (BrainyQuote). Schools and educators
need to appreciate the diversity in their classrooms and modify their teaching styles to help every child grow in the best way possible. Students need to be taught how to find their own answers, accept themselves, and to challenge thinking- including their own thinking. How can an individual come to reach their full potential if the adults around them are reinforcing the idea that there is only one kind of success? The United Nations also recognize this problem and have established a list essential goals. One of the goals states, “Expand non-formal education in order to provide educational opportunities to those who drop out or never had access to education” (Education EFA). Students who were unable to complete the standard education system need alternative options available in order to have equal career opportunities. The UN also wishes to provide schools with more funding, higher quality teachers, and better learning environments. Adapting the classroom experience to fit the individual will result in more effective and meaningful learning. When students are allowed to explore their topics of interest, a hunger for information develops. Integrating technology into classrooms provides a link between modern skills for accessing and manipulating information. Technology is available and the public should be taught how to manage these tools. Connecting education to other relevant areas of growth will allow students to apply their knowledge in the real world and increase understanding of the material. Every single individual can contribute to this world, the job of educators is to assist them in finding their gift to the community.
