Starting a movement is difficult when only one person is standing up, but there is no other way to inspire change than to start with the individual. These individuals are being threatened by a society that urges the free thinker to abandon his ideas and fit the group mold. Little Brother by Cory Doctorow illustrates the power of the individual and the momentum gained when a person gathers a group to challenge the law. 1984 by George Orwell takes the exact opposite approach and depicts a futuristic society in which the leading authority oppresses its people and actively undermines the rights of the individuals. While the group is what keeps the flame burning, the individual is the key spark in starting a revolution. This has been exhibited in history; Hitler rose up to power through promise and intimidation and almost ruled the world. Throughout history the human race has experienced the power of the individual; however, society has yet to learn the value of diversity, consequently, society will embrace conformity to such an extent that the individual will cease to exist.
