March 22nd 2012
The preparations have begun. Yesterday Richard O'Conor and myself met with Rev Jon Westall and John the manager of Goldsmiths Arms. We agreed that we wanted this to be a party where everyone was welcome not just on the day but welcome to input ideas and to get involved with planning and organising a party that will be remembered for years.
We are applying to Ealing Council for permission to close part of Friars Place Lane for the day. Rev Jon Westall and myself will be personally visiting all the residents whose homes may be affected by the proposed closure.
We will use this blog to keep you updated and invite you to use this to share any comments that you have. We will need lots of volunteers to help plan this party so please come along to our AGM on the 3rd April or email goldsmithsresidents@gmail.com to get involved.

We have submitted the application form to close part of Friars Place Lane to Ealing Council for approval. We personally visited residents who would be directly affected and the response we received was very positive without any objections. Partners now include the Goldsmiths Residents Association, The Goldsmiths pub, St Dunstans Church, The Park Club and London Network Church (the Baptist Church). There will be a performance by the students at Barbara Speake school and we are approaching local musicians so there will be live music.
Ideas being explored are face-painting, best hat competition, zumba, barbecue, cup cake competition, tombola, bouncy castle, morris dancing and may pole dancing. You will have many more and we want to hear them. Please leave your comments below and then we can all read them.
Next Jubilee Street Party Committee meeting is on Wednesday 18th April. If you are interested in helping out email goldsmithsresidents@gmail.com to get involved.

The first meeting of the volunteers was terrific. So many people fuelled with great ideas and a passion to make this street party swing. This is a community event organised by the community to share culture, food and fun. I have met so many wonderful neighbours already and I have been overwhelmed by their generosity and willingness to share with their community. I have a feeling this is going to be a great Jubilee street party and I'm so looking forward to meeting more of you.
At the moment we have agreed live music, a Céilidh, Zumba dancing, fancy dress, high tea, cup cake competition, bouncy castle, story-telling, Sumo wrestling, treasure hunt, live performances by local schools and community groups, face painting and lots of games and quizes.

Arrangements are going to plan. We now have a Latin Jazz band and a Fire Eater. Looking for a caller for the Ceilidh or at least someone who understands the caller on the CDs - any offers?

Well we did and it was fantastic. It all seemed to come together as if by magic. I arrived at 9am to see the first marquee being erected and then as the threats of more rain hung over us residents kindly donated more gazebos. Then the food started to arrive. So much of it and so beautifully prepared with love. I was touched by how much energy everyone put into the day. We had a wonderful performance by the pupils of the Barbara Speake Stage School, a beautiful song about peace from the pupils of the King Fahad Academy and we got to dance in the street.
The event was sponsored by the Goldsmiths Residents Associations, St Dunstan's Church, The Goldsmiths Arms, the London Network Church, The Park Club, Hart Estate Agents and WEM. We were able to meet all our costs and have a substantial amount left over which will be donated to the Ealing Community Winter Night Shelter and Marie Curie.
The next meeting of the Goldsmiths Residents Associations is the 3rd July and I look forward to seeing you then. Please let me or Richard O'Conor know if you have any items for the agenda.
