The Clarks of Sandhill Ontario
James and Ann Clark came to Canada from the area of Rochester in Kent England. It appears they may have been married before their emigration, while all of their 6 children are listed as having been born in Canada. So while their exact year of arrival is not known, it was at least prior to the birth in 1852 of their eldest child, Thomas.
James and Ann settled in Peel County's Chinguacousy Township in the village of Sandhill. The following map indicates the area that is enlarged in the map that follows it.
This enlargement dates from somewhere in the 1870s and shows "Jas Clark" as the owner of the sizeable farm on the south-west corner of the crossroads of Sandhill.
This recent photograph is taken facing eastward along King Street, approaching the crossroads village of Sandhill. All the land seen to the right side of this picture is a part of the farm that was once owned by James Clark, Sr.
This last, contemporary map indicates Sandhill's location in the rural, northern portion of Brampton. The red line is again marking the area that was enlarged above.
