29th July 2018: Damian Clarke / 24 Carat Jazz / Satya

Damian Clarke

Damian Clarke continues his mission to present the wonderfully exotic Hammer Dulcimer and Hurdy Gurdy. He is currently the only touring UK performer of these instruments who also sings. An international entertainer; his concerts are a multi-faceted show, with stories and sing-alongs, fun, history and romance. His instruments provide a refreshing change of sound; haunting, evocative and stirring.

His third solo album: “Something to say” features autographical self-compositions, reflecting his career as a touring musician. Mostly featuring the Dulcimer, there are catchy choruses to sing along to, great stories or poetic musings on travelling, returning home and the adventures in between.

24 Carat Jazz

24 Carat Jazz is a jazz trio playing a range of well know jazz standards from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Gershwin, Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole, as well as some contemporary songs played with a jazz twist. Based in Market Harborough, the band was formed in March 2017 having met through local jazz jam sessions. 24 Carat Jazz features Birmingham-born Jane Smith on vocals and tenor sax. Jane has a rich alto voice that’s perfectly suited to jazz, backed by a lifetime of singing in a variety of styles including pop and rock, musical theatre and as vocalist with a Big Band. Pianist John Deane is a former music teacher and has many years of playing experience, coupled with an almost encyclopedic knowledge of music and songs. On double bass, Kevin Griffiths has played in a number of styles from pop and rock to theatre and jazz and has studied under some of the best names on the British jazz scene. The band regularly performs as a trio and also as a quartet with drums. More info on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/24caratjazz/.
