NRSD LULC Mapping Training

Hanoi, Vietnam, April 13-21, 2017

Vietnam's National Remote Sensing Department (NRSD) requested technical assistance from SilvaCarbon to help implement the joint NRSD and Department of Meteorology, Hydrology, and Climate Change (DMHCC) project on “National GHG inventory of 2016 in LULUCF sector in support of the development of the national communication and Vietnam’s contribution to UNFCCC.”

The objectives of this training were to:

  1. Train NRSD’s team on how to fuse spectral bands or optimize spectral band combination, which enables proper interpretation and classification of different land covers;
  2. Train in the development of basemaps and a database in support of GHG inventory of agriculture and LULUCF sectors, which include: national land use/land cover map, climate map by ecological regions and soil map in line with IPCC guidelines for change monitoring (activity data and emission) of 2 time periods between 2006 and 2016;
  3. Derive remote sensing based mapping data to extract to textfile for use in ALU for estimation of emission and removal of LULUCF for 2016.
