About the College:
Savanur is a Historical town situated 09 km from the National Highway No-04 Savanur is tiny province ruled by the Nawab. Is a silent town known for its spicy Khara snack and bettle leaf it also the Birth Place of Jnanapeeth awardee V K GOKAK.
The Savanur town is inhabited by mediocre people mostly from the minority and weaker section Agriculture being prominent profession. The impact of globalization has reached Savanur An air of reform is prevalent People are now pursuing quality.
Our Savanur College initially started with 75 students in 1984 and the strength is increasing manifold Today the college is equipped strength of 433 students With an air of primitiveness, today the college is on the threshold of offering the college to accreditation Grass root level changes are being implemented in the teaching methodology. Teachers are standing on their toes to make experiments in pedagogy.
Many industrialists and philanthropists are keen in upgrading the college, so as to offer quality education; Shri R G Shindhoor Ex MLA has donated 5 acres of land in memory of his mother for constructing the college building. Shri Basavaraj Bommai Honorable Minister for water resource Government of Karnataka has evinced keen interest in the construction of college bulding. We have shifted our college to this pleasant & magnificent campus in 2009.
At this juncture the college with a inspiring band of Donours, Philanthropists and Educationalists are now on the verge of offering the college for shelf introspection process of Accreditation. We humbly offer ourselves for accreditation by NAAC.
About the Library:
The Smt. L.G.S. Government First Grade College Library, Savanur (GFGC library, Savanur) is functioning as an important knowledge center. It is busy fulfilling the information needs of students and faculty. The library, which began with the inception of the college in 1984-85, grew gradually. Our college, which consists mostly of students from rural areas, has a large number of female students, and the library works to support their academic growth. The library functions as the heart of the institution with a well-lighted spacious separate building. The library building has a carpet area of 2400 Sq. Feet.
The college library has all the relevant and reference books related to the curriculum. Now the library has more than 25,289 textbooks, 2318 reference books, 3135427 e-books, 6237 e-journals in our library. We have digitized all these library books through an open source software called NewGenLib. The library has Kannada and English daily newspapers, periodicals, competitive exam books and magazines to cater to the needs of students.
Separate reading room for students and staff and a restroom for staff. Every year students will be issued ID cards which include ID number, QR code of the library website for easy access. The library has a Browsing Centre for Students as well. The library is under CCTV surveillance as well.
The library has its own website (gfgclibrarysavanur) having huge information about e-journals, e-books, career corner, N-LIST and also some of the inspiring videos. The institution has an independent library building. The library is fully automated and it is a great source of information for all the teachers and students.
