4/22/2024 - 4/26/2024To mark Earth Day on April 22nd, we had an array of engaging activities planned for the week.
On Monday and Tuesday, we hosted a delightful rock painting craft session. Children enthusiastically scoured their surroundings, gathering beautiful rocks to bring to school for painting. Be sure to peruse our album to admire our budding artists' masterpieces.
Last month, all our students had the opportunity to nurture a plant. They diligently tended to their plants, faithfully watering them each morning and providing them with ample sunlight throughout the day. Now, as these plants have flourished, our children either took them home last week or left them in our care at GentleSwing to continue cultivating in our backyard. Among these plants are Chinese cucumbers and red peppers, including the variety known as "朝天椒," renowned for their small size and intense spiciness.
On Friday, we celebrated Leo's birthday, coincidentally falling on the same date as Ms. Wanda's. Together, we joyously sang birthday songs and indulged in delectable cupcakes!
Throughout the week, our curriculum introduced the letters 'H' for Hat and 'I' for Ice. Additionally, we learned a song depicting the 12 months of the year and enthusiastically danced to the rhythm of 'Baby Shark.' In our art and craft sessions, we created enchanting paper flower sticks and painted beautiful butterflies, aligning with the overarching theme of Earth Week.
4/15/2024 - 4/19/2024This week, we embarked on another chapter of our learning journey, delving into the alphabet from A to Z. Our Pre-K students undertook a brief quiz, showcasing their ability to write numbers from 1 to 20, along with words starting with 'F' for fish and 'G' for girl. I'm pleased to share that all our students demonstrated remarkable effort and skill in completing the test, earning well-deserved rewards from our treasury chest.
Our thematic focus for the week revolved around the timeless classic, 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.' We enlivened our classroom with rhythmic movements, dancing to lively tunes such as 'Monkey Dance' and 'Dinosaur Dance.' In our creative sessions, we engaged in hands-on craftwork, constructing delightful giraffes and crafting intricate spring gardens from paper. These activities were designed to resonate with the imminent Earth Week celebration later this month.
4/8/2024 - 4/12/2024We had an incredibly busy week filled with exciting activities!On Monday, April 8th, after nap time around 3 PM, we ventured outside to observe a Solar Eclipse. Everyone got to experience this amazing event while wearing our adorable ISO-certified solar eclipse unicorn and butterfly glasses.Wednesday was special as we celebrated Aaradhya's 2nd birthday! We indulged in scrumptious cupcakes and had a blast blowing out candles together. And what's a birthday without the classic rendition of the happy birthday song? We sang our hearts out and shared in the joy of opening gifts with Aaradhya. This week, our theme was the color purple. Ms. Chen taught us how to craft beautiful purple flowers out of paper. Then, with Ms. Vidya's guidance, we created a paper vase filled with colorful flowers. Spring has arrived, and to celebrate, we also made crafty snails.And have you noticed? Our seeds are sprouting! It's exciting to see everyone taking care of our plants and watching them grow.4/1/2024 - 4/5/2024This week was packed with engaging learning activities! We delved into various topics, including the days of the week, different colors, and distinguishing between good and bad jobs. Additionally, we reinforced our learning by reviewing one word each day, such as "a-apple," "b-boy," "c-cat," "d-dog," and "e-egg." It was rewarding to witness the kids rise to the challenge of spelling these words on Friday - their accomplishments were truly commendable!In our craft sessions, Ms. Chen guided the children in creating vibrant zip chains out of colorful beads, while Ms. Vidya led an art lesson on painting rainbows using straws. We also explored the fun of handprint cakes adorned with the color purple (the color of the month). On the STEM front, we embarked on an exciting journey of making paper rockets under the guidance of Ms. Vidya.Adding rhythm to our week, we learned some simple dance steps to accompany the rhyme of the week, "row, row, row your boat." Elsie also treated us to her kids' bop music box, and despite the inclement weather, we enjoyed dancing indoors.Lastly, we had an unexpected experience on Friday with a minor earthquake. Our teacher took the opportunity to explain how earthquakes occur, turning it into a valuable learning moment for all.3/25/2024 - 3/29/2024This week's highlight was the Egg Hunt, which featured siblings joining our party for half a day of fun-filled activities. Some of these siblings were GentleSwing alumni and alumna. The festivities began with older siblings sharing their favorite books with the younger ones, fostering a sense of camaraderie and literary appreciation among all attendees.Following the book-sharing session, we engaged in a spirited quiz competition, with sibling teams showcasing their knowledge and skills. The questions ranged from basic letters and numbers for the younger participants to word scrambles and math challenges like multiplication or skip counting for the older ones. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, and each team received Easter prizes as a token of recognition for their commendable efforts.Afterwards, we ventured outdoors for the much-anticipated egg hunt. Blessed with beautiful weather, we also indulged in various outdoor games, soaking up the sun's warmth and enjoying each other's company. In the afternoon, our craft teacher delighted us with a demonstration on how to create adorable bunnies using socks and rice. The resulting creations were incredibly cute, adding a charming touch to our Easter celebrations.3/18/2024 - 3/24/2024It has been yet another engaging week filled with learning activities. Our curriculum included exploring our senses, mastering lowercase alphabets, reviewing numbers from 1 to 20, and becoming familiar with the days of the week. Amidst our educational endeavors, we delighted in playing the traffic signal game and delved into the captivating Adventures of Abby Alligator in our reading sessions.With the arrival of spring, we embarked on an exploration of the caterpillar life cycle, accompanied by collaborative flower painting sessions. Witnessing the growth of our seeds, diligently watered each morning, has been a source of joy and wonder for all of us.In anticipation of the Easter week ahead, everyone enthusiastically crafted charming bunny baskets using plates. We missed Patti dearly as she battled illness. In her absence, we took the opportunity to create a special gift for her, the details of which will remain a delightful surprise upon her return.3/11/2024 - 3/17/2024What a delightful week we've had leading up to St. Patrick’s Day! Our "Dress Green" Day on Friday, March 15th was a fantastic celebration. Ms. Vidya captivated us with stories about St. Patrick’s Day, and to add to the excitement, we embarked on a green-growing adventure. Each child chose either pepper seeds or cucumber seeds to nurture daily, eagerly anticipating their growth come springtime! 3/4/2024 - 3/10/2024
This week, we were thrilled to extend a warm welcome to a new friend, Avyaan, who embarked on his GentleSwing journey with us, beginning in March. Additionally, we welcomed our substitute teachers this week, and you can find their profiles here.Our educational exploration continued as we immersed ourselves in letters, numbers, colors, and shapes. We immersed ourselves in drawing pictures of ourselves, employing a variety of shapes to unleash our creativity. On days when the weather permitted, we ventured outdoors to savor the refreshing spring breeze. Outdoor activities comprised parachute games and a spirited softball match. Additionally, we seized the chance to delve into the earth, celebrating the onset of spring. On less cooperative weather days, Teacher Vidya engaged us in a lively dance to the tune of "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." We also enjoyed indoor games together, adding a touch of fun to our learning experience.
2/26/2024 - 3/3/2024This week, we continued to make paper cranes for a high school student who is unwell. Ms. Wanda, having learned her story, rallied everyone's efforts, and under the guidance of Ms. Chen and Ms. Zhu, we diligently crafted origami cranes. In Japanese culture, there is a belief that folding 1,000 origami cranes can make one's wish come true. This practice, known as "senbazuru," has evolved into a symbol of hope and healing during challenging times. We hope that our collective effort in creating these cranes will bring comfort and positivity to our sick sister.We also took advantage of good weather throughout the week, providing the kids with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities. They had a great time riding bikes, creating chalk art, and playing on the swing sets. 2/19/2024 - 2/25/2024February marks National Children's Dental Health Month. On Tuesday, we took the opportunity to impart valuable knowledge to children regarding proper teeth-brushing techniques. Employing a creative approach, we utilized little dinosaur figures to demonstrate and practice the art of brushing teeth. Each child received a new toothbrush and a spool of dental floss to take home.This week, we warmly welcomed Myra back from her trip to India, and our excitement at her return was palpable.As winter draws to a close, we seized the chance to relish the last remnants of snow before the onset of warmer weather. On a pleasantly warm afternoon, we ventured outdoors to craft our newest frosty companion – a snowman. On Monday, we participated in crafting heart-shaped paper cutouts adorned with heartfelt words that we wished to share with our families. The day continued with a delightful Valentine's Day celebration, where each of us received a goodie bag filled with hearts and love, a kind gesture from both GentleSwing and Ms. Patti.Wrapping up the week on Friday, we happily took home beautifully crafted flowers made from egg boxes. The level of creativity demonstrated in making these flowers was truly impressive!2/5/2024 - 2/11/2024This week has been particularly special as we celebrated Chinese New Year. On Thursday, we observed a "Color of Red" day in honor of this festive occasion. Have you had a chance to peruse the photo albums capturing our vibrant red attire adorned with beautiful lanterns and Chinese fans?In addition to the festivities, we organized outdoor parties in the driveway, where we rode bikes, created chalk artwork, and engaged in special ping pong games with Ms. Wanda, using chopsticks. While challenging, the experience was rewarding, and we even utilized chopsticks during lunch to savor the flavors of Chinese tradition through spring rolls. In the afternoon, we explored Chinese calligraphy using water ink.The highlight of the day was the distribution of red envelopes, and everyone took home radiant lanterns symbolizing the ushering in of the New Year.The weather blessed us with its gorgeousness throughout the week, prompting us to venture outside almost every day. We also learned two new games suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings: "Red light, green light," and running steps by rock-paper-scissors. It's truly remarkable to realize that Chinese New Year is just around the corner, and this week has been brimming with delightful activities in celebration of the Year of the Dragon. One of our proudest moments was bringing home an exquisitely crafted fish, symbolizing luck for the Chinese New Year, skillfully made from egg box papers. What a creative idea! In addition to our artistic endeavors, we delved into the world of Chinese New Year activities and also explored children's books related to President's Day. The highlight of the week was an animated lion dance performance by Ms. Wanda, setting the stage for an exciting lion parade on Monday. The anticipation built up, and we were thrilled to partake in the lion parade together.Under the guidance of Ms. Chen, we embarked on a creative journey to make our own dragons, eagerly taking our artistic masterpieces home to share with our families.Our quest for knowledge and fun never ceases. We continued to explore the realms of letters, numbers, and even ventured into addition in math. The festivities included singing Happy Birthday, blowing out candles, unwrapping gifts, and sharing delightful cupcakes—a truly enjoyable time for all!With Lunar New Year approaching, we immersed ourselves in the festive spirit by reading "Bring In the New Year" together. Our classroom now boasts a vibrant New Year's theme in red, adorned with hanging lanterns. Ms. Chen skillfully guided the kids in crafting the Chinese character for "Spring." In addition, she initiated a fascinating project teaching the children how to create fish out of egg boxes. Did you know that in Chinese culture, fish symbolizes abundance and fortune, making it not only a popular dish but also a symbol of luck for the Lunar New Year?Our pursuit of learning continues in both English and math. Dora and Elsie have already completed their letters books, and each of them proudly took home a new book from our learning treasury chest. This week, we introduced a new and engaging activity to reinforce letter memorization— the fortune teller origami game. It added a fun and interactive dimension to our learning process.Last but not the least, we celebrated good behavior by proudly raising two lanterns. As a reminder from our sticker reward chart, reaching a total of 10 lanterns will reward everyone with a sweet treat—a lollipop! He demonstrates remarkable qualities as both a helper and a leader, effortlessly connecting with the younger ones in our group.In our activities this week, we explored the world of music with the introduction of our music carpet. Inspired by Serena, we engaged in a Mario Kart game, adding a fun and interactive element to our learning experience. In observance of Christmas and New Year, GentleSwing will be closed from 12/23/2023 to 1/1/2024 and will resume regular operations on 1/2/2024.Throughout this week, we conducted a comprehensive review of letters A through L. Engaging games were employed for this review, with children taking turns playing the roles of teachers and students, quizzing each other on letters. Additionally, the children called out the letters displayed on their crowns. Our time together also included the creation of numerous memorable crafts. To conclude the week, we celebrated with a festive party where our kids, dressed in holiday attire, enjoyed jumping around, listened to a gingerbread man story, and engaged in an interactive play. As a delightful treat, all the kids were rewarded with popsicles at the end of the day. Each child should bring home a Christmas tree, a gingerbread man ornament, a snowflake ornament featuring their pictures, and a giant snowflake, hoping to illuminate your home with holiday cheer!On Thursday, taking advantage of the warm weather, we ventured outside. We also geared up for December, blending a new phase of our learning journey with the festive celebration of holiday themes. 11/20/2023 - 11/26/2023This week was shorter as we led up to Thanksgiving, but our learning journey persisted as we continued to explore numbers 7 and 8, along with the letters G, H, and I together. We held a quiz on Wednesday, where the kids demonstrated their ability to do simple math, adding up to 7 and 8, and recognizing all the letters.Throughout the week, we engaged in crafting activities centered around the Thanksgiving theme. These activities included creating a Thank-You pie and crafting a turkey from leaves we gathered a couple of weeks ago, resulting in beautiful artworks that your child(ren) proudly brought home in their backpacks.Wednesday held a special highlight with a visit from alumni Serena and Rea, who are now in second and third grade. They assisted our kids with craft projects, dance activities, and shared reading time. The children had a blast playing the classic game of duck duck goose, and even experienced its Chinese version, 鸭子鸭子鹅 (ya-zi, ya-zi, e), as well as the popular game 丢手绢 (diu shou juan). In the afternoon, they enjoyed a game of musical chairs. In the end, we discovered candies in a mystery treasury box filled with leaves. What a fun time!At the end of the Halloween party, we revealed the surprises hidden in the pumpkin buckets - books, snacks, toys, treats, and candies.This week, we also made butterfly rings with the guidance of Ms. Chen. This special breed of carp is known for its vibrant, colorful scales and is considered a symbol of luck in Chinese culture, often associated with good fortune, prosperity, and happiness.On Friday, we celebrated this month's color theme of orange and black, with our little ones enjoying lively balloon fights both indoors and outdoors. We also decorated a giant pumpkin in preparation for next week's Halloween party.Our learning journey is continuous, and our kids had a great time with Math, English, and Chinese quizzes. Our teacher randomly selected subjects and challenged them with letter recognition and math questions. The winners received stickers, which could be redeemed for prizes from our treasure chest.10/15/2023 - 10/22/2023This week was special at our daycare as we celebrated Elsie's 5th birthday. Happy Birthday Elsie! It was also week filled with learning and fun activities for our little ones. We continued our learning journey with a focus on the letters "D" and "E." The children also explored the numbers 5 and 6.Additionally, we continued our adventure in learning Chinese letters and sang some delightful folk songs.Ms. Chen led a creative activity where we made giant fun candies. Additionally, we delved into the fascinating world of Chinese characters, learning about 桔色(Orange)and 黑色(Black).Our kids had an adventure exploring the backyard garden, where they had the opportunity to pick organic tomatoes and peppers.Ms. Chen demonstrated how to craft lovely spider webs from sticks and strings, and she also showed the children how to make Halloween decorations using paint.Folk Tales and Myths: Continue the tradition of storytelling by exploring folk tales and myths from different cultures. Additionally, we delved into the fascinating world of Chinese characters, learning about 大 (big), 中 (middle), and 小 (small).The highlight of this week was the exuberant celebration of the Chinese Traditional Mid Autumn Festival on Thursday, September 29th. Much like the Chinese equivalent of Thanksgiving, this holiday brought families and friends together to revel in sumptuous feasts and savor the delectable mooncakes.Adding to the charm of the festival is the timeless legend of the graceful lady 'Chang Er,' who resides on the moon, accompanied by her loyal pet rabbit. In homage to this enchanting tale, we integrated rabbits into our celebration, symbolizing the essence of the holiday. Under the skilled guidance of Ms. Chen, our children had the delightful opportunity to craft their own rabbits using origami paper. These charming rabbits were lovingly wrapped in mooncake boxes and taken home, along with balloons bearing their Chinese names, beautifully written in Chinese calligraphy by Ms. Wanda earlier in the month.This week was a culmination of joy, togetherness, cultural enrichment, and cherished memories as we celebrated this special and significant occasion. 9/18/2023 - 9/22/2023This week, we continued to explore numbers 1, 2, and 3 while also focusing on the letter "B." Our young learners proudly brought home their exquisitely crafted "B"s and lovely drawings of bumblebees. Our outdoor adventures were punctuated by an exhilarating game of Monster, providing the children with a chance to release their pent-up energy as they frolicked about. Wednesday afternoon saw us in the midst of a spirited race that left everyone pleasantly sweaty. The swing, a perennial favorite, continued to captivate hearts. We reveled in the glorious weather this week, seizing every opportunity to venture outside, both in the morning and afternoon. Our week also unfolded the enchanting tale of Johnny Appleseed, an inspiration for us to nurture our own charming apple trees. Unleashing our inner artists, we embarked on a creative journey, fashioning vibrant paintings with handprints and repurposing humble paper plates. On Friday, we wholeheartedly embraced the color blue as our theme. As part of this theme, we each crafted a vibrant self-portrait mirror that also doubles as a fan—a truly enjoyable and imaginative art activity! As part of this theme, we also engaged in an interactive game where we swiftly identified various body parts, both in English and Chinese, further enhancing our language skills and cultural understanding.As the weather gradually cools down, we made the most of our outdoor time, playing and soaking in the fresh air as much as possible.9/4-9/8/2023Welcome to GentleSwing/MLCCC!Our first week of school was absolutely fantastic, filled with exciting activities and lots of learning. Here's a quick recap of all the fun we had:Tuesday: We started the week by learning the number 1 in both English and Chinese. Not only did we learn about it, but we also practiced writing it, which was a great start to our math journey.Wednesday: The following day, we dived into the world of letters and conquered the letter A. But that's not all – we had a blast making paper airplanes! These airplanes even got their moment of fame during an NBC interview last week.Thursday: Our focus remained on the number 1 as we continued to learn and practice writing it. In addition, we unleashed our creativity by using trace rulers to create some beautiful pictures.Friday: We wrapped up the week on a heartwarming note by coming together as a team to create lovely Grandparent's (or parent's) - "somebody (thumb-body) loves you" cards. It's all about sharing the love!Despite the heat, we managed to enjoy some outdoor fun in the mornings. We got artistic with chalk art and had a blast playing in the backyard. What a week it was, filled with laughter and learning!We're looking forward to more thrilling adventures in the upcoming weeks.
