Global citizenship is one of the most frequently discussed topics in the field of higher education; researchers recognize global citizenship as one of the skills most required in the 21st century. The course refers to a deeply human meaning of the notion of global citizenship: the sense of responsibility and obligation to respond to global and local needs. This understanding of global citizenship is different from that presented in political, activism, or business-oriented definitions. Instead, it is closer to the Franciscan Tradition, and can build on its rich foundation.
