The earliest map I have found of Widdington dates back to 1767.
It is titled "A Plan of Priers Hall Farm. Survey’d, Valued & Plan’d by Edward John Eyre, 1767."
This map provides a valuable snapshot of the landscape and land use in 18th-century Widdington, centered on Priers Hall Farm—a historically significant estate in the area. Edward John Eyre, the surveyor, was active during a period of increased agricultural development and enclosure in England, and his work reflects the precision and purpose of estate mapping in the Georgian era.
This map, therefore, is more than a record of boundaries and buildings—it’s a window into a period of social and economic change, revealing how national reforms in land law and agricultural practice were experienced at the village level in Widdington.
