Wall Art commissioned for Lloyds Bank Stourbridge
I trained for 5 years at Art College and finally emerged with an MA in Constructed Textiles. Many years were spent freelancing in textile design and as a sessional lecturer at college. I also spent a year setting up a textile department as Head of Textiles at the Midlands Arts Centre. It was about this time that I was commissioned to make the textile sculpture shown here. Later I had a knitwear business, showing as part of Design Gap at the London Mainseason. Orders for garments from this made me realise I needed my own shop and a reliable source of yarn. After a year managing a Birmingham City Centre Phildar we set up 'Yarns' in Selly Oak Birmingham. I employed staff to run this while I wrote knitting patterns and had a bespoke curtain tassel making business at the same time.
These are bestoke tassels I made for a curtain shop. I made many over a few years while we had our 3 storey Victoian house. I needed the 3 stories to get enough length to spin the ropes for the tassels
