Frequent questions from Customers
Should I use HCM Extract or BI Publisher?
HCM Extract has the ability to do "incremental extracts" - this could be one reason to use HCM Extract instead of BI Publisher. Cautions here are:
Keep your performance expectations realistic by ensuring you test performance with your typical volumes beforehand.
HCM Extract does a "full extract" & then a "diff" against the prior XML to get the "incremental", so expecting to run this every 15 minutes, for example, would be unrealistic.
Many customers prefer to use BI Publisher as it's easier to find resources that know how to use BI Publisher & there isn't a dependency on ensuring DBI's are available. The cautions from Oracle here are:
If you write SQL to access data you are not protected against upgrades.
Data security is only available via certain secured views that have been provided.\
Can I deliver the extract direct to my On-Premise File Server?
Yes, it can. You just need to schedule the extract & specify your file server as the destination. In order to get this to work, you need to file an SR as per details in MOS Doc Id 1924562.1
Benefits Extract (special case of HCM Extract)
To setup the benefits extract, refer to the following guide.
Page 2-15 of the User Documentation describes how to use the benefits extract.
Benefit enrollments can also be uploaded into Fusion Benefits. Instructions are here along with a sample upload file.
However, if the defined benefits extract does not meet your requirements, you can use BI Publisher (Link to BI Publisher presentation recording from Apr 18th) to create your own version of Benefits extract. You can start with the data model query underlying the benefits extract.
Payroll Extract (special case of HCM Extract)
Fusion Payroll Interface enables you to capture personal payroll information, such as earnings and deductions, along with other data from Oracle Fusion Human Capital Management, and send that information via a seeded template to ADP (Payforce).
Prior to Release 5, a customer would have had to leverage BI Publisher to create extracts for other Payroll Providers, but with Release 5 customers have been able to leverage HCM Extracts Release 5 quite effectively to create these extracts.
