Hi All, May 20, 2015

I finally decided that the midterm exam is going to take place on Tuesday, May 26, 2015, 13:30 - 14:30 at Class Room # D204. Obviously, the exam will address all material covered in class up to Chapter 6. I, however, should remind you guys some key points as follows:

• Oxidation states of organic compounds
• Electrophile / Nucleophile (poor/rich-electron sites)
• Resonance
• Acids / Bases (electron-withdrawing group, EWG / electron-donating group, EDG, etc.)
• The IUPAC nomenclature (note: both following names of CH3-CH=CH2 are accepted, A. prop-1-ene B. 1-propene)
• Isomers, especially (E,Z) and/or (cis-/trans-) structures
• Newman projection
• Degree of unsaturation
• All other published requirements must be satisfied.

Moreover, you should bring some blank sheets of paper for drafting purpose only.

The Midterm Exam is tentatively scheduled on Friday, May 22, 2015, 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM. This is a closed-book, closed-notes exam. The exam will address material covered in class up to (and including) the handouts covered in lecture #9 on May 12, 2015 (Meiho 2) and on May 15, 2015 (Meiho 1). This exam also includes all homework problems/assignments related to those released materials. No paper will be supplied; every student needs to bring paper for the exam. The following items are NOT allowed during the exam:

• Computers
• Cell-phones/Ipad/Tablet
• Copies of text, equations, figures, or any other items
