The History of the Club

The Founders of the club

The Frontiers Living History Group was started in April 2008

by Don Mclean, Garry Mappin ( Mappo ) and Jenny and Gary Baker

and their daughters Kaitlin and Indiana Baker


They had all been members of The Blue and The Grey Re-enactors which did the American Civil War period, but who had decided that they wanted to undertake doing a different time period of the Fur Trade era.

The Baker Family and Mappo were also members of Hodegon NVG medieval club.

Sadly Mappo passed away on the 12 Jan 2011


We have put together this dedication to him

Mappo - for all those Friends he shared his life with and his love of Re-enactment Living History

- we have been Blessed to have known him

In June 2016 it was decided by the club's members to widen the time periods undertaken so club member's could do any time period they wanted to.

The Hodegon NVG club merge

In June 2016 with now so many of the Frontiers club members also being in Hodegon NVG Club . It was decided that it would be best to shut Hodegon NVG shut down and merged the club into the Frontiers living History Group and widen the time periods undertaken so club member's could do any time period they wanted to.

Hodegon was one of the Melbourne branches of the New Varangian Guard a living history group doing viking & byzantine period

The Branch was founded in October 1998 and shut down on June 2016

Description

The New Varangian Guard, is a non-profit Australia wide organization, devoted to reviving the diverse aspects of life in the Middle Ages.

We focus on the Varangian Guard, an elite mercenary guard drawn mainly from the Vikings and other European cultures spanning a period ranging from the 9th to 13th centuries AD, whom served as the bodyguard to the Byzantine Throne.

Our aim is to be as authentic as possible for both education and fun, without compromising on safety, the Law and people's enjoyment
