2008
October: Emily and Markus run two legs for the 2008 Detroit Marathon relay team of the Biology Department. Other team members: Lori Pile and Marla Spain from, well, the Pile Lab, and Lori Pile's husband Paul Eddleston. This was the first such attempt by the department. The time of 4 hours, 2 minutes and 2 seconds was a great first achievement (we thought...).

2005
Celebrating Ying'sMarch 2005 defense at the Shangrila over a hearty serving of dim sum, i.e. "Benzer style". Zhenyi concerned because his defense is coming up next. Jason's first exposure to real chinese cuisine. He did well.

Just four weeks later: dinner after Zhenyi's defense. This time in Golden Harvest. Gratefully embracing organismic diversity we particularly enjoyed the fried quail, spicy fried eel and jelly fish on pig feet. An adventurous treat.
