Bring work out gear and shoes to school with you each day in case we can't practice outside.
We will not practice, nor have matches over Spring Break 3/16/25 – 3/20/25. Hitting on your own is encouraged. We may have optional drop-in hitting sessions during that week.
4. TRYOUTS
Tryouts start 2-23-26, 4:30pm-6pm at the FRHS courts/Fossil Creek Park with hopes to be finished by March 7th
At the end of tryouts, we will announce the results of tryouts and meet with every player individually.
Tryouts Purpose:
The purpose of tryouts is to determine who makes the team and the first pass player stacking for our combined team.
Which position or team each player will be playing (Varsity, JV) should be able to be finalized during 2 weeks of tryouts.
Coaches will determine if further challenge matches are needed after March 7. We have strict CHSAA rules that need to be followed and met for post-season play qualifications and seeding purposes.
Based on results in the season, coaches hold the right to re-open tryouts if necessary.
Tryout format:
The format for tryouts will be as follows: (weather permitting) There will be singles and at least 3 days of doubles tryouts which will be over the 2 week period from 2/24/26 - 3/8/26. Please be available as missing tryout dates could negatively impact your position on the team, especially at the higher levels. ALL TRYOUTS BEGIN IMMEDIATELY AFTERSCHOOL, PLEASE BE ON-TIME!
DOUBLES
Ladder tournament (seeded by coaching staff) to 15 or 21 points. Play a doubles game to 15 or 21 with each player on your assigned court. One team serves 4 points, then other team serves 4 points. Change sides after first 4 points and then after every 8 points. When one set of players gets to 15/21 points, call a coach over, record your scores, switch partners and play another round to 15/21. After the 3 sets have been played, top players move up a court and bottom players move down a court. This will continue over several days to determine rankings.
SINGLES (Tryout begins 2/23)- All Singles tryouts will take place at Fossil Highschool on lighted courts
Singles tryouts will be limited to returning Varsity top 11 players from last year.
Singles tryout format will be 2/3 full sets.
Similar to last year, you must beat the current player 2 times in a row in order to take their spot. If the current player wins the first match, the tryout is over.
Depending on numbers, players will play multiple games/matches over the tryout days.
The results will be a stacking of players based on results.
What to bring to Tryouts:
Orange/yellow-card: you must give your card to the Coach on court.
Your Racquet, Shoes, Drinks, and Snacks for yourself, and anything else you need.
Warm clothes. Please remember that it can be very cold during tryouts and you may not always be playing. Please bring warm sweats/coat/pants and blankets.
Weather
As you know, spring is Colorado is our snowiest time of year and that’s really bad for Tennis fans.
If the weather is bad and the courts are just wet, we will likely have a limited practice / tryout.
If the courts are snowy or it is too cold, we will inform you by 3:30 that afternoon what the plan for practice will be that day. You should always have workout clothes with you in case of an indoor workout due to weather.
What’s after Tryouts
Transportation: This year we have been notified that again that Busses are very hard to get due to a lack of drivers. We will need many helpers to help drive players to away matches. Please consider helping out, especially if you have a big car.
Volunteer opportunities: SEE THE PARENT SUPPORT GROUP PAGE It really takes a village to have a tennis team and parents play a huge part of that. Whether it’s transporting players, organizing snacks for matches, taking pictures, organizing the year end banquet, etc, please consider helping out make this season a great time for your players.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Contact Jill (970-412-2188), or Lynn (970-481-6282) if you have questions.
