WiF Glossary (from RAW 7)

Active major power: a major power at war with another major power

Active side: the side whose impulse it is

Administration groups: a group of French minor countries or territories which can be either Vichy or Free French.

Air-to-air strength: the air-to-air rating of your front fighter, plus something for each backup FTR or carrier plane, in your fighter group. If you have no fighter group, it is your front bomber’s air-to-air rating

Alignment: minor countries that join your side

Allies: USA, Commonwealth, USSR, France, China and their controlled minor countries

allies: major powers on your side

Axis: Germany, Italy, Japan and their controlled minor

Baltic states: Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania

Bomber: An aircraft or carrier plane flying any mission except combat air patrol, interception or escort

Britain: aka the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Nth. Ireland

Build points: your production points multiplied by your production multiple

Combat value (aircraft): your air-to-air strength - your opponent’s air-to-air strength

Common border: any hex you control within 3 hexes of a hex controlled by another major power is part of your common border with that major power

Commonwealth home country: Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom

Controlled: a minor country or territory that is either aligned with your major power or conquered by it

Convoy chain: a chain of convoy points in one or more adjacent sea areas connecting two ports to facilitate the movement of resources and build points

Corps or army: includes HQ sized units

Division: any division (XX) or brigade (X) sized unit

Enemy: a major power or minor country you are at war with

Fighter: a FTR or carrier plane patrolling, flying a combat air patrol, interception or escort mission

French Equatorial Africa: Cameroons, Gabon, Middle Congo, Ubangi-Shari, and Chad

French West Africa: Mauritania, French Sudan, Senegal, French Guinea, Ivory Coast, Upper Volta, Togo & Dahomey, and Niger Colony

Friendly: a major power or minor country on your side

Hex, coastal: a hex which contains both land and sea

Major powers: China, Commonwealth, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, USA and USSR

Neutral major power: a major power not at war with any major power

Patrolling: ending a naval move at sea

Production points: 1 resource transported to 1 factory = 1 production point

Siberia: the part of the USSR which is east of the north-south demarcation line running 3 hexes east of Stalingrad

Side: there are two sides in MWiF, the Axis and the Allies

Stage: a portion of a turn. Each stage is divided into a number of steps

Step: the smallest segment of a turn where actions occur. Several steps constitute a stage

Surface naval unit: any naval unit except sub or frogman

Western Allies: France and the Commonwealth

WiF Slang

Barb: Barbarossa, a German Strategy that is an invasion of the USSR.

Barb 40/41/42/43: A German Strategy that is an Invasion or the USSR done during the recorded year (40, 41, etc...).

Chaining Naval Transports: This is a naval transport technique that involves a naval transport ship to "sail through" the port that contains the transported unit, which is loaded as the transports sails through. The naval transport then sails up to another port where the transported unit is unloaded as the naval transport ends its move. Another naval transport pick up the unit there again by sailing through the port.

Closing the Med: A form of CW first German Strategy that aims at closing the Mediterranean Sea to the Allies by conquering Gibraltar & Suez, and then turn on to the USSR later.

Commonwealth First: A German Strategy that aims at destroying / crippling the CW before going after other targets (usualy the USSR).

Double-Stacking: Means that you have 2 land units in a hex, which is the maximum Stacking limit, unless you also play with the Divisions Option which allows a third land unit (divisional) in a hex.

France First: A German Strategy that aims at attacking France in S/O 39, ignoring Poland, before going after other targets (usualy Spain & Gibraltar).

Funnies: Special Marine Mechanized or Marine Armored Divisions units.

Gib: Gibraltar.

Med: The Mediterranean Sea.

Peacekeeper: A unit controlled by an MP that moves to and defends a hex against an MP that it is not at war with (e.g. Russia DOWs Persia and then Japan puts a unit [Peacekeeper] on one of the southern oil hexes).

Reorg: Reorganize / reorganization.

SCS Transport: Option to carry DIVs and allow them to invade from SCS.

Sea-lift: This aludes to the number of TRS & AMPH you have, and as a consequence your possibilities of transporting (lifting) armies from a place to another. We talk about an amount of Sea lift in the following form : "Do you have enough Sea lift ?" "Do you need more Sea lift ?" "You should build more Sea lift.".

Sealion: A German Strategy that is an invasion of the UK.

Sitz or Sitzkrieg: A German Strategy where Germany don't declare war to the USSR in 1941 or 1942 and waits sitted on the border with USSR that war is unavoidable because of garrison ratios, and tries to pre-emptivzely declare war to the USSR to avoid the suprise impulse that the USSR declaration of war would gain them.

Stuff or Stuffing the border: An USSR strategy that sees the Red army placed at the Polish border to try to prevent Germany to Break the Nazi-Soviet Pact by preventing them to reach the needed garrison ratio.

Super-combined: O-chit during a combined impulse.

Super-land: O-chit during a land impulse.

Vanilla WiF: A WiF FE game played without options.

Wallies: Western Allies.
