There is a great video podcast on iTunes called Python Osmosis.

My preferred Python dev environment is Eclipse. Make sure to download the PyDev plug-in. You can use Subclipse for source code control.

If I have to recommend a single book, it would be "Core Python Programming" by Wesley Chun. An excellent reference is "Python Essential Reference".
