Week 4: Day 3
Since Genova is a developed city, the majority of gardens are found in parks and on roofs. While looking at the amazing and elegant architecture of the hundreds of renaissance buildings, you may notice stems of leaves and flowers poking over the roof of buildings. My favorite is the one roof, where you can see a greenhouse and trees. I wish there was a way to go and see the different gardens people have created on their roofs!
This afternoon we did something we’ve wanted to do since Day One, we went to the Pirate ship! The Pirate ship is a ship that was used in a cheesy Pirate movie. It is not on display at Porto Antico, where for only 5 euro’s you can go explore and take pictures. Because it was used to make a movie, the proportions of certain parts of the ship are skewed and slanted, like at the back deck and where the pirates ‘rooms’ are. It was fun getting to see the ship and take pictures.
Since the first week in Genova, I have been going to the grocery store for the Portofino cheese. What started out at 3/4 of a huge, one foot wheel of cheese, I had eaten enough of to bring it down to 1/4 of the wheel. This is the soft mild cheese with extremely moldy and gross wax. Today was the last day for me to get the cheese. To complete my epic journey of eating a whole block of cheese. But when I got there, someone else had beat me to the last piece! Lucky for me, they had other cheeses I had wanted to try, so my dinner was not ruined.
