What is SOFA ?
The Society of Forensic Anthropologists (SOFA) is a U.S. based professional organization comprising over 40 practicing forensic anthropologists. SOFA began as small group of anthropologists in civil service discussing ways to collaborate and improve the practice of forensic anthropology. The first SOFA meeting took place during the 2003 American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) annual conference in Chicago. SOFA has been meeting regularly at the AAFS Annual Meeting since that time.
What is Forensic Anthropology ?
Forensic anthropology is the application of the methods of physical anthropology (biological anthropology) to the medicolegal investigation of death. Physical anthropologists are experts in interpretation and recovery of human skeletal remains. Forensic anthropologists use their expertise to provide expert opinions to Medical Examiners, Coroners, Law Enforcement, Government Attorneys and other relevant authorities.
