Urban Agriculture -- producers in and around the city-- are a critical part of a healthy food ecosystem. they are part of the New Orleans Landscape and players in the impact economy.
This was apparent at the January 25, 2012, "Stakeholders" meeting for the New Orleans area healthy food sector convened by the Propeller: A Force for Social Innovation and LifeCity, two organizations whose work aims to create a sustainable economy in New Orleans.
Among the stakeholders present were urban growers, food distributors, non-Âprofit organizations, social entrepreneurs, small businesses, foundations, and government representatives. Each of the groups represented have a unique and valuable viewpoint in this process and must be considered in attempts to create a more integrated and sustainable local food system.
Participants discussed successes, challenges, and possible solutions to promoting a healthier and more sustainable food system in the city.
