"If you have problems running the latest version FlightGear on your Windows system, you may want to try an earlier version with lower graphics requirements (for example 0.9.8)" (Page 85 of Flight Gear Manual for version 3.6)

The Flight Gear One project seeks to provide an environment for those enthusiasts "having problems" running the latest version of Flight Gear, providing information on running Flight Gear on older computers. (Please see menu on top left side of this page)

My Environment

I am running Flight Gear 1.0 on a Compaq nx7010 (Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 60 GB )first produced in 2004 - 15 years ago. I am running Lubuntu 16.04 LTS. Flight Gear runs at about 6 frames per minute at standard settings, but this improves to 16 fps when Skyblend is disabled. All newer aircraft work but textures have to be converted to .rgb format to be compatible with version 1.0.

Flight Gear is usable, and a lot of fun in this environment

Flight Gear Version 1.0 was published in 2008 according to the Flight Gear History page.

This site was started in October 2015, and the project is expected to run until 2025 as an experiment in preserving computer longevity and re-use.
