This design takes Micheal Norton's excellent design for a simple ESC, duplicates the circuit, adds another PIC and is an entirely self contained twin ESC and rudder mixer in one. This was built for hvpmodell's incredibly light electric PBY Catalina. I chose this route to avoid the extra weight and cost of 2 ESCs and have the ESC permanently mounted in the wing despite it being only 5/8" thick. When the 2 outriggers are lowered it switches on the mixing which works by reducing the rpm of the inboard motor to assist the rudder. This is particularly crucial during water taxiing and take-off as to keep the weight down I did not fit a water rudder. My feeling is that this ESC is not perhaps as efficient as commercial units, although its possible also that my lipo battery is getting tired. That said, I still get well over 12 minutes from a 2100 mah 3S battery, which for a 54" aircraft, especially one as aerodynamically dirty as a PBY is not at all unreasonable.
Features
Self-contained twin ESC and rudder mixer for brushed 400 motors. I am using cautiously using speed 480's with no ill-effects.
Selectable mixing to reduce rpm in line with rudder input.
