Fields of Research

For years, my research focus has been the relationship between museums and the communities in which they operate, seeking to explore how museums use policies, systems, and values to communicate with those they serve (specific audiences and the general public) and their stakeholders (within or outside an organization) to develop a more inclusive and equal relationship and create positive social impact. My research areas are as follows: (1) museum community engagement and visitor studies, (2) cultural policies and organizational dynamics, and (3) museum knowledge production and value creation.

Honors and Experience

In 2020, I received a grant from Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology for the “Toward co-creation: practicing community engagement in museums Research Project” to investigate how museum community engagement is understood and practiced in the Taiwanese context. The project also explored how museums, in the process of participatory practice, address the complexity and challenges in organizational management, implementation, and evaluation.

In 2020, I was commissioned by the National Human Rights Museum in Taiwan to oversee the “Asia-Pacific Human Rights Cultural Institutions Resource Directory Research Project.” The aim of the project was to study cultural institutions dedicated to human rights issues in Asia-Pacific and the human rights advocacy work they were engaged in. The results of the research were used to formulate strategies for the “Federation of International Human Rights Museums- Asia Pacific” and guided the development of its partnerships with potential external partners.

In 2020, I led a “Talent-Development Programme for Museum Professionals" which is funded by Ministry of Culture. As the main theme, “socially engaged practice in museums”, a series of activities are planned, including 2020 spring class, a series of “Inspiring! Social Engaged Practice in Museums” salons, online lectures and a design thinking workshop, as well as an official website to share practical cases of socially engaged practice in museums abroad. Through researches, lectures and international exchange, museum practitioners in Taiwan are encouraged to anticipate approaches for socially engaged practice in museums. https://ilovemsfju.wixsite.com/fjusep

Since 2019, I have been the supervisor of the Teaching Practice Research Program of the Ministry of Education and the Higher Education Sprout Project of our university. By employing innovative teaching approaches and working with communities around museums and universities, I provided opportunities for students to develop social engagement programs for museums.
