FERRYMEAD BUSMENZ SHED

Ferrymead Bus Museum

We have made a development application to Ferrymead Heritage Park to become a resident in the Park and to build a 15m x 12m bus museum which will house metalwork and woodwork workshops, a 'small bus' restoration area and have room for bus displays and a small theatrette. The design would of American Barn style, something like that pictured here. Cost will be in the vicinity of $65,000 so we will be doing a lot of fundraising once approval is granted.

The piece of land we have been asked to consider at Ferrymead Parkdoes not lend itself to the above American Farm style of building, so we could now be looking at something like this 'NZ barn style'. Pictured is Wadsworth Motors building at Tapawera. Funnily enough, Travlon at Lincoln have something similar. Cost for a 6-bay shed with an enclosed area in the middle would be about $30,000. The ground at Ferrymead is ex-dumping site and broken up concrete has been found in a Geo test close by. Council regard this as contamination and require it to be excavated and replaced with gravel fill. Cost for that about $20,000. A barn built with poles, may be an acceptable alternative. We'll see!!!

We were in negotiations with the ChCh City Council for 3.5 years and have got no where, so unfortunately this project has ground to a halt.

We are working from a bus yard in Belfast until we can find a better venue.
