Research Vision
Understanding the mechanical behavior of rocks—compression, shear, and tension—is crucial for optimizing hydraulic fracturing and wellbore stability. My research focuses on characterizing the deformation attributes of anisotropic rocks to uncover the geomechanical properties of unconventional and geothermal formations. Using Digital Image Correlation (DIC) on a lab scale, I measure rock deformation and apply these findings to large-scale simulations of shale reservoirs, incorporating borehole physics and field data. This work sheds light on how natural fractures and laminations influence induced fractures with applications in wellbore stability design and fracturing optimization.
Looking ahead, I aim to integrate geomechanics-fluid flow coupling to address fracture propagation and proppant transport challenges, enhancing fracture effectiveness in unconventional and hot dry rock formations through innovative experimental techniques and data-driven modeling.
