With Fashion Stylist Zoe Hennessey

1. How does being a celebrity stylist differ from styling everyday people?

The jobs are similar. I put the same amount of care and attention into any client I work with, using my expertise to guide them on fashion choices. For red carpet dressing and photos that will be seen worldwide, there tends to be a bit more pressure to get everything exactly perfect, while a private client might not be as picky.

2. As a personal shopper, what are some job duties you handle for your clients?

I love creating versatile wardrobes that meet my client’s needs. If a client needs to pack for vacation, I will find fashionable pieces that work great for the weather and vibe of where they are going. I also enjoy organizing closets, keeping outfits together so things are easier to find and manage.

3. What do you love most about the Los Angeles fashion scene?

Los Angeles is evolving and becoming more style-conscientious. It’s not just tees and cut-off jeans shorts anymore! More and more I am getting inspiration from what I see people wearing on the street, while shopping, or out at restaurants or parties.

4. What’s one styling tip you live by?

I look at a whole outfit as a piece of art. I make sure it works as a complete composition, the colors and patterns are balanced, the proportions are right. Always step back and look at the full look, and take a photograph if you can!

5. What’s your fashion philosophy?

Always make sure you are comfortable in the clothes you are wearing, both physically and mentally. Of course they need to fit well and look good, but you need to feel like yourself, too. Even if you’re pushing your personal style boundaries and taking a risk, make sure it feels authentic.

6. If you had to offer one piece of advice to someone looking to get into the fashion industry, what would it be?

Don’t take criticism to heart, but keep it in mind. You want to grow and adapt from the feedback you get and not let it hold you back in any way. No one ever gets it right 100% of the time.
