Tips And Advice From A Professional Fashion Stylist

Q. What’s the difference between your duties as a celebrity stylist and those as a personal stylist?

1. It’s very similar, yet different. For red carpet dresses and publicity photos that will have a worldwide audience, there’s obviously more pressure to get it perfect the first time. But I treat all my clients with the same care and attention to details. They’re all celebrities to me.

Q. What’s it like to be a personal shopper?

1. I specialize in creating versatile wardrobes to meet the client’s specific needs. For instance, if they need to be outfitted for a trip, I’ll choose the most fashionable pieces that will fit the vibe of where they are going, and also be appropriate for the weather. I also organize closets to keep matching outfits together and make often large ensembles easier to manage.

Q. What’s your favorite part of the Los Angeles fashion world?

1. I love the fact that Los Angeles is constantly evolving in terms of style. You never know what the next trends will be. I get a lot of my inspiration from what I see everyday people wearing on the street, and at restaurants and parties.

Q. What’s the one styling tip you would recommend?

1. I think you need to look at your outfit as a piece of art. I ensure it works like a complete composition, all the patterns and colors are balanced, and the proportions are right. Just like an artist would do with a painting.

Q. What would you say is your philosophy as a wardrobe stylist?

1. Of course you want to look stylish, and you want to look good in what you’re wearing, but you also want to be comfortable, physically and mentally. You might be pushing your personal style boundaries, but you should feel like yourself too, authentic.

Q. What would be your one piece of advice to those looking to break into the fashion industry?

1. Don’t let criticism get you down. You need to learn, grow, and adapt from the feedback you get, both good and bad. Don’t take it to heart, but pay attention to it.
