Note: Files have been uploaded in various stages, and are not necessarily in chronological order. The intent/hope is for researchers to use the catalog together with the HTML.zip file, which contains the transcripted letters in HTML format. If/when information of interest is found, researchers can contact the Portsmouth Athenaeum to inquire about accessing the digital scans, or the originals.
A small percentage of the transcriptions may have come from material at the Library of Congress (letters from the 1700's, such as from John Langdon), U Texas at Austin (who hold letters between Ellen Eustis Haven Pugh and W.W. Pugh), U Virginia digital center's Dolley Madison collection (Caroline Langdon Eustis, etc), and possibly others. I apologize for any confusion: the scope of the Haven-Pugh Letter Collection is large, and the location of the original within the physical collection can be verified using the catalog.
The Haven-Pugh Letter Collection (originals and scans) is now held by the Portsmouth Athenaeum, N.H. For general inquiries email fannyhaven (at) gmail.com.
