U. S. Per Capita Income for 2016 Q4 Ranked by State

This page presents two images of the U. S. per capita income for the fourth quarter of 2016. First, is a Google Earth map showing states that are highlighted as they were classified in into five groups. Darker colors have greater values of per capita income. Break points in the graph are relatively equal-distant, except for the first. The first break point sets off the three states that have the highest per capita income. Here, the District of Columbia is considered to be a state as is usually the case for state data. The top three states (and D. C.) are:

Remember, that the per capita income is an average, and can be affected by a few very large or very small incomes that are sufficient to throw-off the average. Therefore, as with all averages, we take it as a means of comparison, knowing that it is imprecise.
The map shows the distribution across the entire U. S. (Hawaii is on the far left)
The graph of the distribution shows the slope of the declining values as we observe from the highest (D. C.) to lowest (Mississippi).
