Documentation ( PowerPoint 2016's Screen Recording Feature )
Handover / transfer of knowledge
This aspect is applicable especially for contract workers on restructuring assignments moving between projects across different companies.
In circumstances of tight time frame when one needs to do a quick handover before moving onto a new assignment and take over from someone else, there is a need for a really thorough documentation to be done up within a short period of time
For such scenarios, It is much more useful for the documentation to be done through videos rather than the typical "spamming of print screens" kinda word document ~ this is especially so for steps/processes which one needs to lead end user through a series of clicks through a system.
Contrary to common sentiments, not only are such videos clearer, its actually much faster & convenient to prepare. There are already some readily available tools to help streamline such processes. Etc the Screen Recording function in PowerPoint 2016.
As per ongoing trend of online tutorials through platforms like Udemy and Youtube, there are certain benefits to online tutorials as compared to traditional person to person handover.
For online videos, there isn’t a limit to how many times one can re-watch the vids on areas which one does not grasp on the first time. For normal face to face handover however, it’s common issue for people feeling shy to ask questions
More structured: The video will comprise mainly on what you feel the end user should know ~ Bulk of it catering to FAQ. The blind spots are the remaining queries which stays with viewers after watching the vids. The value of the vids lie in the fact that it helps trim down the amount of actual handover required ~ From a set of FAQ to a narrow set of Q&A queries which one can reasonably expect to settle through a couple of emails or phone calls for clarification.
