March 25 to 28 was observed for mental health awareness with various events including blindfolded ranting, a karaoke and dance session, games and a talk by Ms. Debasmita Phukan, clinical psychologist from Student Support Centre - MAHE.
On the 3rd of October 2018, 15 volunteers from SOLS took part and distributed buttermilk at noon to the workers and labourers of Manipal. Efforts were rewarded with smiles and the words, “Exactly what we needed!”
Alankrit was a vibrant project where the volunteers along with the children painted the walls of the Academy school building. This project was carried out over a span of two days, i.e. 4th and 5th of October, 2018.
On the 6th of October, 2018 volunteers took part in Rangeen which involved creating decorative yet informative posters on simple topics such as body parts, healthy food, food facts, put up at the Kasturba Hospital paediatric ward canteen for the children and their parents to enjoy.
On 6th October, OSA student chapter of Manipal in collaboration with the Social Committee of SOLS and its VSO coordinators organised 'Teach For Each' at the Kadiyali Higher Primary School, which aimed at educating school children in the basic concepts of Chemistry and Physics. Topics ranging from Holograms, lenses, polarisers, density, optical illusions etc. were taught by the volunteers with a rather fun approach to it.
On the 7th of October, 2018, ‘Bachha Party’ was hosted at the School of Life Sciences. The children of the teaching and non-teaching staff of SOLS were invited to the event. The children indulged in a number of fun activities such as musical chairs, Zumba, Origami, painting, sowing seeds into a cup, and many more.
Rags to Bags was carried out at the same time as Bachha Party. Volunteers made cute little tote bags from old shirts for this event. These bags were then given off to the house keeping staff at the university girls hostels. Rags to Bags was the concluding event for the Daan Utsav week.

Social committee of SoLS in collaboration with VSO is organizing 7 unique projects as a part of DaanUtsav'18!
The celebrations this year will be much more grand as we are marking the 10th year of DaanUtsav.
We would love to see maximum participation from the student, teachers and research scholars of SoLS for it.

The social committee of the year 2018-'19 began their tenure by organising a visit to an orphanage to talk to the children on "first aid and personal hygiene". it was an interactive and fun day with chocolates, band-aids and a first aid kit sponsored by the college, being distributed at the end.

The 2nd National Conference on Youth for Social Change was organised by VSO and MAHE, on 25th-26th August,2018 and comprised of two days devoted to discussions on youth-led social activism, opportunities for students in NGOs, and the creation and promotion of ideas for social change.
The conference concluded with a valedictory function where the winning posters were awarded. Of the 6 posters created by SOLS, we're proud to announce that the poster presented by Humaira Shah (3rd year BSc) and team (1st year BSc) was declared “best poster” in the poster competition.
With participants from 15 states and 53 colleges in India, it is safe to say that the National Conference was a roaring success. We congratulate all the delegates, poster presenters and the team of volunteers, for the conference from SOLS, for their commendable representation of our college!

As a pre-children's day celebration, kids of the teaching and non-teaching staff were engaged in art&craft activities like coloring, origami and games like musical chairs, blindfolded catching, table tennis, carom and chess and were also taught a fun dance - by the volunteers from VSO and SLS.

1st November, 2017
It is a week-long national festival, celebrating 'The Hoy Of Giving'. The social committee at SLS, VSO project coordinators and volunteers organized BookSwapia, the proceeds of which were given away to the Psychiatric ward.
5th October, 2017
To mark the event of World Literacy Day, the Social Committee organized a small collection drive of stationary items to donate it to local schools in and around Manipal. Donations were also received in monetary form. These donations were handed over personally to primary school students of Madhav Nagar Government School.
