You can see the elements of the programs, so I don't write the details of each performace and I write just my general impression.
It was a little odd that they didn't sell an event program and that they didn't distribute the starting order sheet to spectators.
What I hadn't expected was ISU fanfare before the events. I was glad with it.
At the opening ceremony, skaters were called one by one by the skating order. They were just greeted to the audience and went around the rink like show finale.
At this event, each warm-up group had 3 skaters and there were 2 warm-up groups each for men and ladies competitions.
Ladies
I think everyone skated well. Sara and Laura skated without major mistakes. They were pretty and nice. Though Kimmie's scores were very low, her performance was not awful at all. She was lovely and beautiful.
Plushenko and Weir appeared at the rink side to support their "Snow King family" Irina and they sat at K&C with her after her performance.
Joannie was outstanding among ladies. It was obvious that she was the only skater who had top level competition shape by only seeing the warm-up. She was fast and powerful. Her jumps were strong. The entire program flowed smoothly and beautifully.
Miki was struggling with her 3Lz during the warm-up and didn't execute it well at the competition. The regrettable thing was the fall during the step sequence.
Men
Takeshi skated Romeo and Juliette. For some reason, his spins were messed up. (some people say that he might have been injured during the warm-up.) But his famous signature move, spread eagle was beautiful.
Johnny skated with a white costume with a trailing cloth. He was struggling with his combination jump during the warm-up, but nailed it at the competition. His program was beautiful and very impressive, I loved it.
Jeffrey skated a modern and cool program choreographed by David Wilson. I think it was the most artistic performance if the night, His 3-3 combination was clean. Even with a jump mistake, it was a splendid performance.
During the warm up of the second group, I think Evan didn't practice very much elements because he was the first skater. Still he did some steps and jumps. I think I saw 2T, 3F-2T from spiral, 3F (I thought it was Lutz, because I had never thought about his Flip from eagle. but I was wrong) from spread eagle with a curve orbit. I was mostly watching Evan during the practice and didn't see other two much. But I saw some 3As and maybe 4T. Johnny came to the rink side during the warm-up to support Evgeni. Evan came to take a drink bottle near him. But they didn't see each other at all.
Evan skated "El Tango de Roxanne" in the same costume which he used at FOI.
In the red color lighting, he showed much passion and excellence of his skating skills. His emotion was strongly delivered to all over the arena.
It could have been better if he could do 3-3 combination, but it was the same 3-2 jump with the warm-up. Probably it was the planned jump. He added the third jump into the program. I thought it was Lutz from spread eagle on curve orbit. The replay video showed it later and I thought it might be Lz"e". but it was actually Flip.
What I had worried about before the competition was rink covering because this program was usually for shows. But he covered larger rink very well.
Getting closer to the end of the program, I became worried about his spins because I had seen only once so far. At the last part of the program, he separated his one spin combination of his usual performance into two and he did two spins. At the last pose, his body inclined more than usual to almost lying down to the ice. It was impressive. The overall performace was very great and the crowd applauded very much.
The judging time took very long and Evan looked displeased and irritated at K&C. I was sorry no one was with him to have a conversation. I was worried that he might have underrotation or edge errors.
When the unexpectedly low scores were announced, the crowd seemed to be surprised and disappointed. I was shocked because his TES was lower than those of Joannie. The ladies next to me who had been very impressed with him and had praised him after his finish said "Nooo! Why?".
I thought that he had failed to get good levels of spins in addition to underrotation and edge errors. All his spins were comparatively short as a competition program and didn't include enough variations. As for the "no count" one, I don't know the reason, but guess the technical panel judged rotations of each position were not enough. I thought that he may have got more points with higher level and more positive GOEs if he hadn't separate the last spin even though his program had included only two spins.
He modified this program by minimum changes from the show program for this event. Maybe he needed to change his program more if he had wanted to win this competition, but just he didn't, I think.. It should be enough for him to have impressed the audience at the arena very much.
I felt absentminded after watching Evan, and I couldn't concentrate well to Oda's performance at first. I saw him landing a jump combination very beautifully. I didn't see what kind of jump he did, but the applause of the audience made me find that he nailed 4-3. He had been very much improved in his expression than before. His moves were very sharp and it was a very great performance despite of some mistakes.
Evgeni did almost nothing for his transitions. He just existed there as "the Emperor of FIgure Skating". Maybe It was a very important thing at this competition. And two 3As were huge advantage for technical scores. His performance was solid with some humourous part as usual.
It was a little bit bitter as a competition for Evan fans. It was a pity that we couldn't see more score oriented program. But his Roxanne performance itself was no doubt a brilliant piece. He showed us his fighting spirit as possible as he could and I was satisfied with having seen clearly his "world No.1 judge appeal" again from the center area of the 2nd floor.
